Let it be known that there were times when Nia did not particularly enjoy her job. mostly those were times when she was covered in some mysterious substance after wading through a creature's insides to recover something no one really cared about to begin with. Or whenever she had to deal with a particularly ungrateful brat. And just about every time she had to talk with Agents Blythe or Wingblade. Hopefully one or the other killed the other off soon.
Now Nia had yet another job she didn't particularly want to do. Every student and faculty member had been called to the Antechamber.
There were no seats. No extended bleachers.
which should have been the first giveaway that something was awry.
Of course, most people within the halls had already heard about the kidnappings and assaults. Parents had begun contacting their children and the staff of the Academy. Things were going downhill.
Fast.
They were gathered together for a very specific purpose. It was time to make a statement about what happened and what should be done. They were already anticipating that some students, and possibly a handful of faculty members, were planning ill-fated rescue attempts.
Those would be squashed now.
Once everyone had gathered and gotten as comfortable as possible, Nia approached a microphone set up for just this purpose. She cleared her throat, then began speaking.
"I'm sure you're all aware of the current events. Four students from the Academy have been abducted by an outside force. As of now, we are uncertain as to the identity of said abductors. However, we do have our best Agents assigned to locate those kidnapped," the lie came easily to Nia. They generally did. "Morgan Cavan, Locke Herald, Matt Ambrose, and Garion DeLuse will be just fine. We're already in contact with their families, who have been informed. In addition, we're planning a stipend for the families who are suffering. If you are experiencing grief."
Nia struggled not to smile. "Then there are counselors available for you. We assure you that the Academy is as safe as it has ever been, if not safer. The Agents will continue to protect us, and this will not happen again."
Nia paused then, surveying the crowd, reading their reaction. Her next words were going to hit even harder.

Kiri was the Queen of being left in the dark. She lived in her own little world with her little animals and was happy there. Why hadn't she seen Locke lately? She figured he was busy with work. She figured he had projects, or working. She did not figure he'd been kidnapped.
Playing with her blue dress's hem she blinked as she heard her boy genius, boy friend's name called. Eyes going as wide as possible she couldn't believe it. Wouldn't believe it. Fellow Wingorse girls turned to look at her knowing about her relationship. Kiri's hands started shaking first. This little annoucement ceremony was just about to get interrupted.
"NO! NO! YOU! You're lying! He's-He's-" Kiri was up on her feet and screaming at the podium. Her hands were shaking and tears were falling down her usually cheerful face. "No!"
She kept screaming and crying hitting the girls around her as she tried to get to an opening. "You're lying! Where is he? You took him! Get off of me!"
The golden hair fae's hand flew and struck a Wingrose boy across his face and he just stood in shock. She cried and sobbed shaking, and thinking of all the horrible things that could be happening to him.
"Y-You're supposed to protect him! Why-Why didn't you stop them?" Kiri screamed not noticing the rats and mice now crawling around her feet. "Why didn't you save him?"
She just kept screaming over and over..."Why didn't you save him?"

Karmine was gathered, of course, and he had two things on his mind right now. One was Kennedy. He knew he was going to do something stupid, Nia herself couldn't stop him with Morgan involved. The second was himself. He'd like to say he'd stop Kennedy, but really, if Riana was involved Kennedy couldn't stop him, so he figured it wouldn't be right to try and stop the man from helping his blood.
He had not foreseen Kiri's reaction, and such a violent one at that, as she began striking Wingrose students left and right shrieking. Ai yai yai, what had gotten into her? Did she know that Matt kid? The name didn't ring any bells to him. Maybe she treated little Garion like a little brother, that might explain that reaction. Locke was ruled out immediately, he'd probably hate the fluffy little girl.
Before Nia could do as she always did, and order some burly giant of an agent to escort her out, Karmine flew from his seat over to her. He touched down by her, scooping up the flailing girl.
"Now that's quite enough there." He said, cradling her head, and flying out of the crowd towards the door. He passed Kennedy on the way out. "Take notes for me Ken." He mumbled to him. He knew Kennedy would no doubt listen to what Nia had to say.
God, Karmine really hated uptight Fae women. So why did it seem like all the ones running the show were like that? Nia, Minerva, Riana.
Instead he focused on the emotional wreck he now held. He didn't say a word to her, making a motion to allow her to stand on her own feat, if she could.
"It'll be all right, ah promise." He said reassuringly. He knew she wouldn't be reassured so easily, but he had to at least keep her from blitzing Nia. As funny as the image of Kiri smacking around Nia was, that was not the best idea.

Leo was bored. He didn't know any of the people mentioned and he didn't care. He had decided to stand around Eve, the only person from his house he got along with at all. And then the shrieks came. He covered his ears for a moment before trying to look over the crowd.
"Now what the hell is all of that about?" He asked. "I guess they kidnapped her boyfriend or something." He muttered. "Ah to be a child again, so innocent."
Leo would never say it, but he was rather desensitized to this sort of thing. Little girls taken from their homes, raped, beaten, killed. He'd seen it all before, he'd known people that it had happened to. Guys snatched up in the middle of the night for some long forgotten slight and never seen again, or found dead in a ditch.
Those tears of loss, he was far too familiar with them. He knew far too well what they were like.
It was unfortunate that he couldn't feel that way anymore.

The delicate fae girl would not just go peacefully when her godfather scooped her up out of the crowd. Instead she kicked and screamed and even tried to bite him. She'd seen animals fight plenty of times. The only knowledge she knew of fighting came from her little friends. Those friends were now very active following her screams.
Once to her feet she glared at her godfather. "It'll be alright? Those brain damaged slugs lost him! They didn't protect him!"
Her body gave one tremble and the tears overtook her, shaking her entire body in wracking sobs. Kiri dropped to her knees hands covering her face and small rodents crawled up onto her lap. Not because she'd called them per say it was just she was their friend and friends comfort each other.
Locke was the closest person to her in this entire place. He'd been her world. Sure she had Kennedy, and Mr. Karr, and maybe even Angela, but Locke was the closest. To think she couldn't hold him anymore, couldn't kiss him, couldn't laugh with him. Another sob and she scooped up a large fat rat to hug to her cheek. The rat squeaked and she stopped.
"I'm going to save him. If they can't protect him no way can they save him." Standing the rats, and mice swarmed over her feet. Her glamour darkened drawing a bit on the shadows, but she was after all a young girl, she was Kiri a perky child. It just looked half done and wrong. "I'm going to save you, Locke, I promise."

Karmine could try to stave off Kennedy's reaction, but really, there was little hope. If perfect strangers had been kidnapped, the heroic Cavan head would have been one of the first to raise a rescue party. Now that his sister had become a victim, Kennedy was ready to storm the enemy's base right now.
He agreed with Kiri.
"She's got a point!" he yelled, wading through the crowd. He lucked into a vocal enhancement Gift as he waded, and he clung to that. "You're supposed to be protecting us! But you couldn't even stop them from taking four children? What kind of defense is that?"
He waved an arm, cutting the air. "Our best bet is to form a group and go and save them ourselves. Better that then waiting for the Academy to debate the issue. I'm not about to let my sister or Garion," he turned to address the audience, "who's a nine year old boy, be harassed by some creeps."
And Kennedy knew just how to find them too. After all, it just so happened that he knew a powerful telepathic vampiress who would just love to have Kennedy owe her a favor.

The noise from the Cavan audience was tumultuous. People started to cheer and generally shout encouraging and rallying things out at Nia. Pretty much the entire crowd raged closer to Kennedy, ready to back up their beloved leader.
Aaron, however, was not alongside them.
He was off at the side, trying to look over the heads of a few Wingrose students to Kiri.
He wasn't particularly close to her... in fact, the two only just met! But he was still concerned. She was not taking this very well, and for whatever reason, Star wanted to be there for her.

Her arms crossed at certain people's reactions, but remained calm. The girl who started screaming about Locke had gotten whisked away by some fairy, while another guy also started yelling. Eve knew Locke somewhat, and it sparked a fire in her that he'd gotten taken. That lil' cat was the reason her and Rae were together.
"Hey, Leo. You know any of those kid's taken?" Eve glanced over at the guy beside her. He didn't look much more fazed than she was. To expect the school to be able to defend all them all the time was a ridiculous thought. There was just too many of them and too few of them. She'd have to tell Rae what went down, and who'd gotten taken. Maybe the punk rocker would know some of them too.

"Let's see." Leo said, ticking his fingers. "Nope, Nope, Nope annnnd Nope. Nah I dunno any of em, so I really don't care. Happens all the time, best not to let it bother you. What about you, you know any of em?"
And then Kennedy went and started causing trouble. Oh this would get interesting. "Oh great, Mr Sponge is causing problems...hey wait...isn't that chick his boss? Huh, go figure, he never struck me as the rebellious type. I wonder what got into him?" Leo mused aloud.

The Agent Commander had been expecting as much. Honeywater had been a surprise, but Cavan acted exactly as expected. Worse, he was rabble rousing, something he had a talent for. It had been useful for ousting the evil that had been there last year, but now it served counter to their purpose.
The faerie's eyes narrowed dangerously.
"It is apparent that some of you are not quite willing to follow Academy guidelines. You don't seem to understand that we are, in fact, here to protect you. And if need be," she raised her hand, "we'll protect you from yourselves."
A finger snapped, and Agents started working through the crowd. A handful made for Kiri, more went toward Kennedy.
"Tutor Kennedy Cavan, student Kiri Honeywater, we believe that it is in your best interest to be detained while this situation is being handled by the proper authorities. We'll make certain you're safe, and your loved ones will be just fine," Nia's face was blank, her voice nearly monotone. "We just can't have you interfering."

Her eyes widened and she instantly went to Karmine's side. Tears still falling she started to sob again shaking her head. She was upset it wasn't like she was trying to cause problems, she was just worried. A spur of the moment thing. She was irrational!
"No, no, no, no! I-I don't want to. I'm just worried." Kiri looked upwards at her godfather pleading with him. All she wanted was Locke back. Why didn't these people understand that? So she screamed a bit, and cried but that was to be expected when your loved one is taken. Right? If she was 'detained' she couldn't save Locke.
"How could this happen? We were so happy." The young fae whispered slipping around Karmine her eyes darting to her furry friends. There weren't that many, but she could ask more to come. In their rodent tongue she whispered for them to get friends. They weren't going to take her, she was going to save Locke.
Her eyes lifted to the only opening to the outside other than the door. No way would she get there in time, or be able to call her bird friends. Unless the agents coming at her couldn't fly. Looking to Karmine again she choked back another sob.
"Save Locke for me. Please." Pulling away from him she pointed her finger at the agents and the rats, and mice swarmed forward. That's when she started running away her wings coming out as she did so.

Even above the panic that filled the room, even beyond the whispers and the shouts of protest one thing could be heard.
And that was the uproarious laughter of one very eccentric fae. He patted his hand on Kiri's shoulder.
"Kiri dear, I know your scared, but you need to do me a favor. You need to get out of here, things are going to get..unpleasant, and I'd rather you not get hurt. I'll do all I can, you know I will. I made the promise, but right now I need you to go home, do you remember how to get there? You need to find my sister, say you need to find Riana, and they will find her for you. Tell her what is happening, I might need her help. And most of all, stay safe."
With a long, deliberate motion he drew his sword. "After all, how can you help the boy if you they get you?"
He moved past her and strode back into the room.
"Ya know Nia." He spoke loudly. "I'd reconsider that course of action. It wouldn't be the first time I stopped a fae ruler from hurting my family. And I bet you recall what happened to the last one."
He stopped for a moment and stroked his chin. "Oh yeah, I suppose I forgot. Consider this my resignation."
He looked then to the agents approaching him, this was going to get real ugly. Every one of them a full fledged fighter in their own right, he might need some backup here.
Eh, he'd played the last 500 years without a plan, one more wouldn't kill him.
"Well then what are you waiting for?" Karmine asked. "A written invitation?"

"Ah, hell," cursed Kennedy. He really should have been expecting as much. This certainly went a long way towards explaining that letter he'd gotten from Adelaide. Maybe things were a lot worse in the Academy then he'd at first believed. After all, they were going for Kiri of all people.
"Our safety my a**," he muttered, clenching his fists. Kennedy could try and fight. Probably do some damage, too. Especially if he could snag the right combination.
"Karmine!" the young man yelled, turning to see the other tutor. Things had just gotten dicey, and Karmine would make a wonderful ally. "Looks like things are about to get a little rough."
He tried to work his way toward Karmine, figuring that they'd be able to work together and at least buy Kiri enough time to get the hell out of dodge.
As Kennedy moved through the crowd, he saw a tough, yet sexy dark haired woman. Eve. Rae's girlfriend Eve.
"You!" he yelled, waving. "Find your... lover. They'll know what to do."
Even in the middle of a crisis, Kennedy wasn't willing to oust a potential closet case. Surely most of the school knew about Rae's and Eve's love life, but that didn't mean Kennedy needed to parade it.
Then, Kennedy felt something shift. Looking down, he began to see his skin... leaking.
"F**k."
Poison Emission. They had an Agent with Poison Emission, and they'd sent him or her after Kennedy.
"Knock me out!"

Eve looked at Leo in shock. "You don't care? Kids just got kidnapped! Gah, to have your coldness toward the world might be useful at times."
She nodded her eyes flicking to the agents, and the two tutors reactions. "Yeah, I know one of them. Looks like a fight's about to start too."
At the order she turned finding the source of it and glared. Who the hell was this guy bossing her around. Kennedy was what they said right? Sounded familiar...Oh! "You're Rae's friend right?"
She yelled going on tip toe to see him, for the crowd had started to get antsy. Then young girls started screaming. "Rats! Rats!" The rats were spilling over people's feet toward the men who dared threaten their Kiri. Laughing she started toward the two men with a smile. "Hey, Leo you like pluverizing retarded people?"
Eve saw the intelligence behind getting Rae but she didn't run from a fight. Shoving people aside easily or picking them up and setting them to the side she worked her way very quickly to Kennedy's side. That's when she smelled something awful. "What the f*ck is that smell?"
That's when she heard him say 'Knock me out' She wasn't all that comfortable hitting strangers, but he had asked for it. "Aww, hell. I'll go get Rae. I'm sorry by the way."
Eve lifted a heand and went to hit the boy behind his head.

There were time when Casey Blythe hated his job.
Generally he was supposed to go on fetch jobs. Professional Gopher. Find the poor kid. Save the man who thinks machines talk to him. Reason with people.
Not take down an innocent Wingrose, a charismatic Cavanite, or a bold Faerie.
Still, orders were orders, and until Casey got out from under the Academy, he'd have to follow them. However, he really didn't want to deal with the mess that was Kennedy Cavan. For one thing, the sponge would get Cellular Regen, which would make him nearly unstoppable. For another, Casey remembered a certain meeting with a certain pregnant woman.
Karmine would slaughter Casey. And that would hurt, even as Casey healed.
So the brave, bold Agent ran after the cute little Fae girl. He dug into his pockets, unearthing his stun gun. Nia had ordered them to carry such things, and Casey knew it would be far better to be stunned then what some of the Agents would do to Kiri.
Blythe ran after the little girl, trying to doggedly follow her trail. If he got close enough, he'd try to put on a friendly face. He hated deceiving people, but it was better that she get detained now then go off and get seriously hurt.
Right?
