It doesn't solve the initial problem I put forth. Hate to sound rude, but thats basically it. Energy doesn't come from nowhere, sure we can techno babble it, but I like to do that only with a rational explanation.

Instead of saying 'most' give me some examples. It's a blanket staement that's hard to give any value to.
Elemental Kinesis: Manipulate the power itself, not like they are creating it per say, more like changing what is already there.
Telekenesis uses the power of the mind, which is always a little 'mystical' in nature.
But I'd prefer not to clutter up the boards, so lets take it to MSN eh?

I keep forgetting if I've asked stuff or not, and when I go to check the questions thread, I have to look through a bazillion pages of chatter. Could we somehow organize all the things that have already been asked and answered, by category, and maybe put them on the first page? If you need someone to set it up, I probably could, since I've already been looking through and all.
Can we temporarily modify or nix the activity rule? Otherwise, the vast majority of this site is in trouble, and I don't feel that more discipline is going to motivate anyone to be more active right now. If you want to keep an activity rule, maybe change it so all you have to do is log in to count as active for the two weeks? Baby steps, right?

Frankly I think the Activity Rule doesn't apply on a small site, we need all the members we can get. So I am nixing it, within reason of course. I may send you a 'poke' PM if a character hasn't done anything for two months. But if YOU the person are active, I see no need to. And Meg, if you could organize the questions and answers of the questions thread, I would happily clean it up. Cleaning up the board is something I'd been meaning to do. On that note: I am making a list of threads that clutter up the GB (Not general chat threads or things like that) that are cluttered or no longer relevant (Some of the announcements for example.) and will be deleting them soon. I'll post a list some time later, but this is a notice so if, for some reason, you want to save something in some of the announcements you can. |

I plan to make a Questions FORUM, with each topic having it's own thread so people can check it easier then the cluster **** it is right now. If you still want to organize, go ahead, it'll still be useful.
Actually, nix that. A lot of the questions will be out dated soon enough. I'm going to finish up my gift rework now, then work on redefining the species as well so we can get this all working smoothly. As such, a lot of the old questions will be outdated or irrelevant.

Gifts:Hypnosis Mediumship Elasticity Magnetism Something like spiderclimb? Forcefield projection. This was suggested before, but shot down. I found something saying that people with this ability can also use forcefields offensively, though, making it less limited.

uhm, in the sidebar, is having 'Thread' in capitals a bad thing ?
like, does it screw alignment or something ??
I'm just wondering if it's possible to change it to look like the others. It's that dumb consistency thing that grates at me :/

I had some time to think and got some ideas while sick.
1. Halloween
Most sites tend to do something like a dance or something. Well I was thinking and I realized we can do a lot of fun stuff here. Probably something on the horror spooky side, like have a slasher game for the characters IC or something. Or throw in a real kidnapper/slasher and have him abduct and hide people. Something to get into the terror side of Halloween. Something to think about.
2. Gift Mimicry
Kirien/Meg discussed that the gift was insanely complex as is at the moment. I have two suggestions to it that will hopefully help.
part 1: A revised system. I think that I found a nice way on revising the powers it gives. It is a powerful gift, but there are a couple things we can do. We can make it two gifts of that level the power is at. This limits the massing of the gifts. I think we all can see 4 stage 2 powers being uber. This stops that sort of thing.
part 2: If a gifted in it is in a fight thread, have the staff decide what powers are able to be copied in a thread. This would take about 2 minutes thought by whatever staff member decided this. This way the killer combos don't happen as frequently.
Just suggestions on the gift mimicry, feel free to consider just one part, both, or none. Merely aware it was complex and wanted to help.
3. Headmaster/Headmistress
I noticed so far there isn't one. We have a bunch of adult characters here. Maybe have an election to see who is interested and have them run the Academy?
4. Gossip wall
I know it is a term used in RL school threads, but this is a place it could be done. I have seen it work wonders and be a huge flop so I am throwing it out for consideration.
Those are what I thought up while staring stupidly at a tv screen and sleeping most of yesterday. I'll go into my corner and play with the robots.

We admins have a little something special planned that will be coming shortly. If it doesn't overlap with Halloween, we'll do something scary/fun for the event. I'm hoping we'll get it all done before then though, but you never know with plot.
Gift Mimicry is complicated, I'll admit. If I had it my way, it would be 'mimic one gift at a time, whichever is closest', but some people don't like that. We'll discuss parts 1 and 2 of your plan and hopefully make something productive of them. Thanks for the ideas!
Headmaster... I'd be more inclined to call them the Dean, or the Principal or something. Or just plain BAMF. We do have some pretty awesome adult characters though. And if we're adding a university, there should really be some kick-ass administration for it, huh? I like the idea. We'll hop on that asap.
Gossip Wall. Love it. Maybe a different name, lol. I know we had the Whiteboard at Casa Bachelour the last board and that thrived for a while. Maybe we can call it the graffiti wall or something. Hmmm....

Juiced? Electricity themed, though the name is a nice pun with booze, too. Lots of neon, lots of flashing lights, lots of flare.
I'll work on some other ideas, too.

I'm a dumbass I swear.....
I forgot one of my suggestions. A MP3 for the site. Mixpod does that well. Everyone here seems to like music. That way people have some music to listen to while posting without opening another tab or another window.
Going to shut up now. I think that was the only suggestion I forgot.

The thing with Mixpods is that when you navigate to another page, the music stops. New tabs and windows are really handy to have because then the songs play in the background. I like the music idea though; I know alot of us listen to music when we write our replies and whatnot, and sometimes the lyrics can be strangely ironic at how well they parallel our characters' lives. I make playlists with www.playlist.com and you can easily add them to websites and whatnot, but maybe we should have a link people can click that will open up a new window? I'll make another thread for everyone to suggest what songs should be on the MOSh playlist. If anyone has any better ideas, I'm wide open to hear them. I'd be willing to make the playlist; not every song is guaranteed to be on their site, and I would set it to random so it won't get too repetitive. I'm thinking we might need something like at LEAST 50 songs to get a good playlist going. That's about an hour and a half of good music.  |
