"K-Kiri that's not what I..." Locke started, but she was going all out now, on the verge of tears. When she shot off into the sky again Locke's heat felt as if it was just snatched out of his chest...again.
"Kiri! Wait!" He called, letting the lightning flair up around him, but before he could leave the ground he remembered something.
The child....the only child here...his baby sister. He couldn't leave her here, no matter how trustworthy Lu was. Slowly he released the power, slinking down to the earth as if drained of all his strength. He fell into a sort of sitting position, while the child slowly fell to sleep against her guardian's soft fur. He might have called the scene cute if he wasn't so distraught.
----------Meanwhile------------ "Masterrrrrrr! Problem problem problem!"
[green]"Settle down now, what's the problem?"[/green]
"I watched, like you told me to. And I saw it all. Some hatchling, he threw a branch at Lu. Lu nearly bit him but she stopped him...and and then she got really uh...what's that thing where you guys make water? That's bad right? Anyway she flew off, and the brat didn't follow! He can fly too though!"
[green]"Hmmm, good job Star. I'll handle this." And he walked to the tree line, the birds and animals gathering about him as he walked. "Ok guys, I need your help here. Let's see if you can find me someone."[/green]

She flew as far and as fast as her wings could take her, and that turned out to be pretty fast. Even Mikail had a hard time keeping up with her and he'd been a raven for nearly a hundred years. Shrinking down to her tiny fairy size she zipped into a meadow of flowers. Kiri fell into a heap chest heaving and she cried into the earth. Why did she keep having to do this to him? Why did she keep freaking out? Screaming she pounded at the ground only audible as a little squeak if audible at all to normal hearing.
The large raven stood near her watching with pain flittering through his eyes. He hated seeing his mistress like this and he blamed it on that wretched boy. Kiri didn't she blamed herself and felt completely stupid and foolish. Her body shook and trembled as she curled up hugging her abdomen as she let out the pain. She'd have to tell him there was no other choice. If she was going to keep freaking out like this and running away he deserved to know why.
It felt like forever before she was able to regain her human size her body drained and shaky. Shivering she blinked her stinging eyes to find that animals were surrounding her, watching her. A spark of fear ignited in her chest not knowing if these animals had been sent by someone to her. She knew that sometimes animals came to her when she was in despair but not this many, and not this far from home.
Standing she held out her arm for Mikail to land on holding him close as she stared at the animals. She should probably be getting back to Locke now, and his family. Poor little Alley she'd ruined their outing to the park. If his family didn't hate him after last night they surely hated her now.

[green]And while it was true that Kiri was no longer alone in the woods, Francis did not say or do anything to make his presence known from among the trees. He'd merely gone to check up on her, make sure she was ok. Sometimes, a little distance was the right thing, and he knew that lesson very well. It had been hard tracking her, what with her tiny size, but he'd been able to find her once she resumed human size. And he smiled as he slowly backed away from where she was, returning to the house.
There would be plenty of time to meddle with this relationship as a good parent later, for now it was best to see how things played out. After all, it wasn't his relationship to make or break.[/green]
OOC: Sorry it's short, just can't think of much to add since he isn't interacting.

The animals didn't move any closer and what was even odder was the fact that they didn't speak to her. She slowly made her way away from the meadow eyes darting from animal to animal. This had never happened to her before and it made her wonder if someone had control over the animals. Someone obviously had left a rather large impact on the local wild life, more than she had first suspected. It made her uncomfortable, extremely uncomfortable. The one thing she had always been able to turn to in times of need, and she felt as though she wouldn't be able to in this are. These animals held allegiance to someone else, and they were making that quite clear.
"Mistress, is it just me or are you receiving the cold stare?" Mikail whispered to her just as tense as the young Fae girl. She nodded spreading her wings completely on edge around these animals. There was no way she could stay the entire summer in a place where she couldn't trust the animals. Not only did she not belong with Locke's family but even the animals in this area rejected her.
"Mikail, after I tell Locke the truth we're leaving."
"Yes, Mistress. I understand."
The took flight eyes still flicking back to the dozens of reflecting orbs watching them leave. It didn't take long for them to reach the Herald's home and she landed outside staring at the quaint little house. Maybe she should just leave him a note? That seemed so very cowardly. And did she knock or simply enter the house? Sighing she turned her back on the building hands clasped in front of her. This was ridiculous. Coming here had been a horrible idea. Coming back to Locke at all was just idiotic. She should've just let him be.
Shrinking down to her fairy size she zipped over to her bedroom and slipped into through the window. After returning to human size she changed into her own clothing and neatly folded the borrowed clothes. She gathered her things and set the other clothes by her door. Things in hand she flew out the door and set her things by a tree before going back to the house. Taking a deep breath she knocked on the front door stealing herself for what was to come.
(Yes, I thrive on drama. If I had my emo character to push it all out on they'd be happy, but I don't sooo...sorry >.<)

[green]Kiri would knock, and there would be no answer, as the house remained cold and silent. However a voice from behind her would ring out through the heavy silence.
"Why hello there." Francis said, and when she turned she'd see him standing there not judging her, but with a smile. "Trouble in paradise?" He asked with a coy grin, moving up closer to her. "Would you mind taking a walk with me? I think we might have a bit to discuss. After all, we might understand each other better then we think." He held out his hand for her.
"I know you're feeling uncomfortable, and I don't think there is anything I or anyone can do to make that go away. But what do you have to lose, right? Let me show you a place I go to when I need to think." He encouraged her. "I promise, if you want to leave afterwords, I won't stop you. And I'll make sure Locke won't either." His hand remained, out stretched waiting for her answer.[/green]

The fact that the door didn't open made her heart sink. They hated her so much that they refused to let her into their home? Bowing her head she jumped a foot in the air and let out a small shriek when a voice came from behind her. She whipped around finding Mr. Herald standing there. Eyes wide she clutched at the locket around her neck too nervous to speak or even move. When he moved closer her reaction was subconscious and instant: she backed up.
Her gaze darted to his hand then back up to his kind, welcoming face. What he said made sense and at least he didn't look mad at her. She took a small step forward and to the left of him still not taking his hand. Kiri wasn't trying to be rude she just couldn't move her arms at the moment. "How far away is it? I want to talk to Locke..." Glancing around for the cat eared boy she adored she took another step forward and to the left.
The raven called from above them having flown to the roof when Mr. Herald had started speaking to Kiri. He wasn't threatening or anything he was simply letting his Mistress know he was there. Staring down at them he wished that his Mistress had just left like night as she had planned. She was a Fae and should not be adhering herself to such people. Where she needed to be was with her own people, not riff raff such as these.
And Mr. Herald had one thing wrong, she did have things to loose she had plenty to loose. One of those things had to do with the love of a young boy with a heart of gold.

[green]Francis smiled at her question. "Oh, it isn't far away at all. And Locke isn't here anyway, he hasn't come back from the park yet. The Missus is out too, so it's just you and me and our friends." He said, emphasizing the last word with a whistle. And then from the trees flew Star, who perched himself slightly behind them.
"Let me say something to ease your mind. I do not judge people." He said, never losing that dumb smile. "I spent the last 14 years with people judging my family, either my son's looks or my wife's fidel...trustworthiness." He corrected himself. "I know how things like that can hurt, so I don't do it. I will never judge you for any choice you make, because that is the right thing to do, isn't it?"
He let it sink in for a moment, as he started down the street slowly. "That being said, please forgive me for being to forward, but you're lying aren't you?" He gave a knowing smile to her, still as warm as before. "Don't feel bad, fathers can do that, especially when it's lying by omission, or not telling the whole truth." He slid his hands into his pockets as he walked, more to give them something to do. "If I thought for a second that hiding the truth could help things, I'd have nothing to say, but I know better. But I don't need to tell you that, you already know it don't you?"
He turned to face her, a strange smirk cracking his lips. "I bet a lot of people think you dumb for your lack of a classic education, right? Hah, yeah right. Look at you, you're 17 and you already understand what love is. If you don't think you do, look around. How many eighteen year old girls do you see in emotional turmoil like this? So afraid they could hurt that special someone? You'd be hard pressed to find more then a handful, and then here you are." He said, half turning again so he looked sideways at her. "You have a secret, a secret you've been hiding from him because it makes you feel unworthy next to him." He peered back at her. "You didn't need a telepath to figure that one out. I won't ask what the secret is, but you have to ask if a moment of pain in the past is worth all the pain it brings you in the present."
He paused for a moment, giving Kiri a chance to respond if she so desired.[/green]

Kiri’s heart lightened a little at the sight of Star and she smiled glancing up at Mikail silently calling him to her. The raven landed on his Mistress’ offered arm snuggling down in her arms he sat in a way so he could watch the large human male. With her close friend in her arms she didn’t feel so bad but she was still extremely nervous as to what this was all about. What could Locke’s father have to say to her that wasn’t ”Get out of my home, never come back, and if you ever speak to my son again I’ll have a million birds eat you.”
What came out of Mr. Herald’s mouth was none of those things.
Following him she kept her head bowed cheek resting against Mikail’s head as he continued to stare at Mr. Herald. The man knew something and her heart raced thinking he truly knew what her secret was and was going to be very mad at her. She kept waiting for him to get angry, kept waiting for him to tell her to leave, and yet he never did. When the word dumb came out of his mouth she winced and nodded hugging the raven tighter in her arms. What he described didn’t make her smart at all it made her even more stupid. Smart people would’ve just left Locke alone, or gave him a note explaining why they couldn’t be together and left. Smart people didn’t keep hurting the people they loved.
Once again she nodded when he mentioned the secret eyes beginning to tear up for the second time that day. His words made some sense to her they really did but it didn’t fix things. The past wouldn’t let her be happy now, her mind wouldn’t let her just be anymore. When he stopped talking she stopped walking nearly shaking she buried her face into Mikail’s silken onyx feathers. The bird nuzzled her but all the while did his best to give Mr. Herald a rather foul look. These people were determined to make his mistress feel miserable!
“He won’t love me anymore. I’m…I’m dirty now.” She sobbed after speaking ending it with a rather loud hiccup. “You and Mrs. Herald won’t want me to be with Locke. I hurt him, and keep hurting him. I don’t mean too, but I-my mind won’t let the past stay in the past.” Lifting her head teary eyes beseeched him. “I can’t stop it. I’ve tried over and over, but I can’t. So the best thing is to leave.” With a curt nod she turned her back on the older man her shoulders shaking as she cried.
“I was going to tell him the truth. Tell him my secret and then l-le-leave. Because he won’t-won’t love me anymore, and I can’t keep hurting him.” She nodded a few more times repeating that last sentence at least three more times. No more hurting him not because she was broken, not anymore.

[green]When Kiri began to cry he did the natural fatherly thing, he wrapped an arm about her and held her steady. "It's ok, let it all out." She'd as much as told him what the secret was. And while he was still of the mind that Locke should know, he knew Locke would have no idea how to handle such information. This was going to be a trying relationship.
When the worst of her tears stopped, at least for a moment, he spoke again. "Kiri, you aren't broken, you aren't evil, and you are not at fault." He paused for a moment, he wouldn't have imagined this scenario when the day started, but here they were. "You can't deal with it, it's too much for you. Because you are trying to carry the weight alone. Let others help you, friends, family, anyone.
He knelled down to be face to face with her. "Look, I'll tell you the truth. Yes, telling Locke will probably hurt him, I won't lie to you and say it won't. But if you don't wound you can't heal. You've got a knife in your heart right now, and until you pull it out it won't heal. Sure it will hurt opening up, I understand that, but if Locke is half as amazing as you think he is, I know it will all work out."
He looked towards the trees for a moment. "I am pretty sure he's told you he loves you. If you believe him, if you ever believed him, you should at least give him the chance to prove it. If you think you aren't worthy of him, give him the chance to make that choice. Cause I'm pretty sure he feels that he is the undeserving one."
He looked about once more, seemingly looking for something. "Just promise me one thing. Stop and think before you make any choice you do. Life, for us, is short. But to make a decision in haste is a waste of the time we do have. Whatever choice you make, you'll always be welcome in my house." He said, his warm smile attempting to clear the darkened skies in her heart. Maybe a little.[/green]

She’d never had a father, never even had a father figure, so when he hugged her she didn’t know what to do. Stiffening she sniffled her tears stopping in their tracks from shock and Mikail made himself quite known. “Do human parents hug their children a lot?” Kiri whispered tears still silently sliding down her cheeks, but not nearly at the pace they had been going. Now Kiri’s mother did hug her on her good days, and when Kiri had been really little she remembers feeling very loved. But when she returned to her mother she never got hugs, her mother didn’t want to touch her daughter anymore. Kiri didn’t know why but she didn’t ask either.
Shaking her head fiercely she jumped in to talk when he paused. “I am too! It’s my fault for getting lost in that city…” His words were not soothing her in the slightest hiccupping again she told Mikail to go find a tree, and he took to the air. “Locke’s my only friend that’s not an animal, and my mother-my mother banned me from home!” Wailing she dropped to her knees as well covering her face with her hands.
For a while she just knelt there trying to listen to him feeling horrible and wanting nothing but to disappear. Her mind was getting rather fuzzy and that claustrophobic feeling she’d been getting for a few months was coming back. Then one sentence pierced through the fog. “He thinks what?! Un-un-What?” She really felt like she should know that word and she scrunched up her face trying to remember it. “No! He can’t possibly think that. He-He doesn’t think that…does he?”
Now that Mr. Herald had her attention she stared at him as he spoke now not fully understanding him. Why was time shorter for them? She thought time was the same for everyone. Wait, he meant life spans didn’t he? Lowering her gaze she sniffled loudly finding his words and kindness unsettling, and unexpected. “Thank you.” More sniffling followed before she lifted her bright blue, tear filled eyes to him. “What are you looking for?”

[green]Had this girl never been shown parental affection before? So that's what is was, she had nobody to turn to. Just her animals, and while loyal, they were not very good with advice in the mortal realm. "Of course." He replied to her question, not releasing his arm until she fell down to the ground. He knelled down next to her and held his arms on her shoulders. "Kiri listen to me, it isn't your fault. Don't let anybody ever tell you anything different." He reassured her.
"Sometimes bad things happen, and all we can think of is what we could have done differently to keep it from happening. But blaming ourselves does us no good, and it's not fair for us."
"Oh I think he does. He was a silent little kid for the longest time. Never wanted anything to do with anybody. But suddenly that all changed, and I don't think you were the only thing, but you sure had a major effect on him. He didn't think he'd ever find a real friend himself, but he found it in you. And in truth, what is a lover if not your best friend? You were there for him in some of the hardest times in his life, times he still won't tell me about. If I know him, he desperately wants to be there for you in your times of trouble."
At her question he glanced upwards again quickly. "Star was supposed to be finding the three of them...ah! There he is!" He said, pointing towards the horizon. "Good, looks like he's still at the park." He stood and held his hand out for her to stand up. "It's your call how this goes down, at the park or at home, alone or with me nearby. However you will be most comfortable I'll help you the best I can." He said, placing his other hand on her shoulder comfortingly.
"It'll be ok, I promise."[/green]

Standing there after the long talk she stared at the horizon where Star had come from her eyes still teary. Exhausted she lowered her gaze to space off her chaotic mind trying to find some order. She wasn't ready to tell Locke, which was odd seeing as that was what she was planning not five minutes ago. What she wanted to do was just rewind time and make it so she'd never left Locke. But she couldn't do that, sadly.
"I don't wanna talk to him alone. If he gets really upset I won't know what to do. I'm afraid if he does I'll get upset and run away again." Mumbling she shuffled her bare feet twisting her hands nervously. "And that won't solve anything."
She also knew she didn't want Alley anywhere near them. That child did not need to see them fight again or anything else bad. Alley needed a happy atmosphere full of love and smiles. Glancing in the direction of the park she sighed not looking forward to this at all. "I don't want it to do it at either place. And I don't want Alley anywhere near it. She's...too precious to see her brother get so upset."
Kiri faced Mr. Herald fear mixed with determination flittering through her sapphire eyes. But if they didn't talk at the house or the park where would they talk? And how would she get Locke to go anywhere to talk? Every time they spent any time together whatsoever she ended up freaking out and leaving him. "Will you tell him to meet me in the meadow? Star should know where it is. That way we won't bother anyone if we yell.."
Her wings appeared once more and she lifted into the air. "I'd like you to be there, but you don't have to." Again she took off toward the meadow Mikail following in her wake.

[green]Francis listened to her quietly. Look at her, standing strong though she looked ready to break. She was a curious one, this girl. As she flew off he waved. "I'll take care of it, don't you worry. Have faith Kiri." And then she was gone. Sighing, Francis continued his walk to the park. Luckily it was only a bit further, and in no time at all he could spot the dejected son.
"Hey! Professor! No time to mope, you are needed!" He called, making Locke look over. The sound roused Lu as well, who squirmed, waking Alley. She rubbed her eyes sleepily and spotted the source of the noise.[/green]
[pink]"Papapapa!" The girl cried aloud, smiling as she struggled to her feet and walked to meet her father.[/pink]
Locke was far less enthusiastic in his motion, being downright dreary. He sluggishly got to his feet and began to move towards the path home.
[green]"Don't be so down, you have someone who needs you to be strong right now. She's waiting in the meadow. Star can take you there if you'd like." Of course he'd already instructed Star to lead slowly, he wanted to have time to get home and still beat him there. But he knew this area much better then Locke did. Locke prepared to take off, his clothes crackling with raw energy. "Whoa whoa whoa! She's not really in the right state for a big flashy entrance. Just take it easy and walk. She's not going anywhere."
Half true, but he also didn't want him getting there in a blink of an eye. "I'm gonna take Alley home, I'll see you later then." And with that he was off.[/green]
-------------A bit later-------------- Kiri would be in the meadow, waiting, when a small fox would run up to her and nuzzle her leg.
"Heyyy. The master says that he's gonna stay hidden to give you privacy, but he is here if things go bad. Master is a good human, he takes care of us."
And the fox scurried away, back into the brush. Almost a moment later a familiar falcon overhead would herald the arrival of the invited.
And Locke came through the brush, stopping a good 20 feet in front of Kiri, facing her.
"Kiri..."

She stood staring at the sun setting her heart feeling as though it were setting with it. Getting dragged down beneath the horizon leaving her feeling empty and dark. Her eyes and face were finally dry her mind and heart ready for what was to come. She was glad that she had chosen the meadow to meet. This way if she needed to leave she could and not worry about disrupting his family.
Expression empty she dropped her gaze down when a fox rubbed against her leg. She nodded at his message following it with her eyes as it fled her side. A part of her was jealous of Mr. Herald having such a connection with the local animals. Just because she could speak with the animals and practically command them didn't mean she had a connection where ever she went. If only she could find a home and grow with those animals again like she had when she was small.
Even though she'd told Mikail they would go home time and again she knew that it wasn't an option. Because the only way her mother would let her come home was if Kiri promised to never leave the fairy realm ever again. And Kiri couldn't do that and wouldn't do that. Even if Locke grew to hate her she would find him, watch him, and make sure he was safe. She'd stay out of his life that was for certain, but she couldn't leave completely.
Mikail ruffled his feather's notifying her that someone was entering the meadow. Turning she stared blankly in the direction he indicated easily spotting Locke and Star. The wind blew her hair and dress as she stood gazing at him her chest feeling cold and hollow. It was time for the truth.

The meadow was in silence. It was almost painful watching her stand there, as if she was in such pain. Finally Locke had to break the silence.
Why?
What?
How did he even start?
"Kiri I...I want to help you. I want to do whatever I can, to help you here." He took a step towards her, and then another. "I don't understand what's bothering you so much, but I want to."
His breath seemed stuck in his throat, as the last vestiges of sunlight began to fade behind the trees. Once again, would the moon bear witness to the tragedy of this relationship?
Time would tell for certain.
