The worst part of being locked up was the lack of space. The drab decor, he could deal with. The tacky, uncomfortable clothes, he could deal with. The sheer boredom, well, that would have been nothing, had he only had a little more room. The cramped quarters were what got to him. After the first couple weeks he'd nearly gone mad with the desire to just run.
Of course, he didn't go mad. Being behind the scenes of two insane beings is more than enough for any one man without adding another to the mix.
He instead decided to make his own space. A cell did not offer much room for him, but running in a circle fast enough eventually let him run more or less on the walls, and when he got to that point, he could pretty much do laps along them. The first few times he tried it, he nearly killed himself by accidentally stepping in the spaces between the bars that caged him in, but eventually he got the hang of it and even made a game of trying to step on them all while maintaining the speed required to not fall flat on his side.
On top of that, he'd been working on controlling his legion, trying to shape it into a more useful form. His experience with the Corporation had taught him that relying solely on hand-to-hand combat was simply not going to cut it. Eventually, he hoped to be able to form a passable gun, in imitation of the one his father had kept around, loaded with a silver bullet just in case something went terribly wrong. Progress with that was considerably slower, but still happening.
All-in-all, he had to admit his stay in jail was proving to finally be useful, if nothing else, as a training exercise. He would definitely come out in better shape than he had been when he got in, in about another, oh...
Twenty-five years.
Cylo sighed heavily. He could really use some fresh air. Or his freedom. But the Academy had given him no choice. He would rather die than become a puppet for an organization that would sit idly by as innocents were harmed.
Still...

"WHERE IS CYLO?!"
The poor man Kirien was screaming at jumped, startled, and quickly hid behind the countertop. "I-I told you, Miss, I need a l-last name!" He squeaked out.
"There's only one Cylo, you big stupid idiot! His hair is red and white! You can't miss him![/b]" "B-but I..." " I'm an Agent. That makes me important, right? So do what I say![/i]" "W-well...but.." " TAKE ME TO CYLO BEFORE I SHOVE YOUR FUCKING HEAD UP YOUR FUCKING ASS![/i]" The man personally showed Kirien and the two beefy Agents now restraining her to Cylo's cell. When she got close enough to see him, she informed her companions that she could walk and they should unhand her before she kicked them in the shin, and rushed right up to his cell. "They shoulda given you a treadmill!" She announced disapprovingly when she got there, frowning as she examined his living space. It looked so tiny! There was hardly had anywhere to move, and they put a demon of speed in it! Who runs this place?! They could at least accommodate better for innocent people! This must be where all the really really stupid people come to work!"And have you been... eating? You don't look too good." She thought she should have brought him a different pair of clothes, too. If they were too stupid to give him room and nourishment, they were probably too stupid to keep his clothing clean. Instead, she made herself a pretty new outfit for the occasion. She wore a one-shouldered white dress with a red underbust corset over top. Short white gloves, black high boots, and a white hat with a large red bow on the back topped off the outfit. She could have kicked herself. Instead, she made a note to kick the prison-manager-guy until his face was sliding off his skull, cause if he didn't mistreat his people then she wouldn't have to make Cylo clothes cause they were being mistreated! "I missed you." Kirien confessed, when she calmed her desire to punch the closest prison worker. "Sorry I took so long. They were being difficult!" She touched her forehead to the bars of his cell, narrowing her eyes when they refused to move out of the way. "I don't like these stupid bars being in the way!" She yelled, frustrated, causing the two beefy agents that were escorting to move closer to her in alarm.[/color]

Cylo was waiting at the bars for Kirien, a grin sliding onto his face as if it had been there the whole time. He'd known she was coming, of course, but not because they had told him ahead of time or anything like that. No, he (and everyone else in the cell block) had simply heard her screaming at the guard, and he recognized the voice instantly.
As Kirien came into view, a twinge of discontent crept into his mind; he didn't appreciate Kirien being manhandled like that, even if it was clear that she 1) probably needed it and 2) didn't mind terribly, as evidenced by the fact that the guards still possessed all of their limbs. However, she was promptly released, and as she made her way to his cell, he couldn't remember the last time he'd been that happy to see someone.
Expecting some sort of greeting, at the very least, he had to laugh at her treadmill comment. "Hello to you too!" He gestured offhandedly to the track worn into the wall. "I make due with what I've got. And yeah, I've been eating. Sorta. I see it as being on a diet. Better not touch me, though."
None of the prison employees were keen on the idea of letting Cylo feed off of humans or supernaturals, and hadn't been quite sure of how to keep him sustained. Cylo had asked what they did with other demons, but they'd told him most demons either escaped or died trying to. Essentially, he was their first demon prisoner. In the end, they'd decided to let him drain animals they were going to use for meals anyway, and while it kept Cylo alive, he was a little on the hungry side 24/7. If Kirien made contact with him, he would very likely not be able to control the pull of life force from her.
His eyes finally took the time to wander here and there across the sight that was Kirien, and he let out a low whistle. "Nice outfit, K. Did you get all dressed up just for me?" His tone was slightly teasing, but behind it all, he was actually something akin to honoured. Not that he didn't normally think she looked nice; he simply got the feeling this was a little above and beyond. And that corset...
"I missed you too. Don't sweat it though. A little waiting won't kill me." Cylo was not naturally a patient person, but having something to keep his mind off the waiting always did the trick. And he had been keeping pretty busy for a guy locked up in a cell.
He put his forehead next to the bars as well, but not quite touching, and bent over slightly so his face was on the same level as Kirien's, giving her the full brunt of his smile. "I could come out there," he said in a low voice, laughing slightly as the two guards started again upon hearing what he had said, "but they'd put me in solitary confinement for a week."
Pulling back from the bars again, he stretched his arms out behind his head and groaned. "So, how's life as an Agent? They order you to let children burn in a fire yet? Ignore some more kidnappings? Let more baddies get away?"
Clearly he didn't quite approve of the decision to become an Agent, but not such that he would judge Kirien for making it. Being in a cell wasn't for everyone, and not everyone felt so strongly about the Agents as he did. In his eyes, though, what they and the Academy had done was unforgiveable, and he wouldn't think any differently about them unless big changes were made. He'd been happy to hear Nia had been removed from her position, but still had no evidence of a change for the better yet.

She beamed when he told her he missed her, too, and swayed happily from side to side. She listened close to everything he said, and gazed upon the wall-tracks in wonder. She wasn't sure how he pulled that off, but she was thoroughly impressed. When he asked about her attire, she giggled but bashfully said nothing, only making a jerking-head-motion that might have been a nod.
"Burn children?" She queried teasingly. She was a little frustrated with Cylo's opinion of the Academy, but she wasn't going to say anything about it...at least not yet. He had every reason to not like them, after they threw him in jail for saving a bunch of kids they left to die! It's just...she really didn't like him being in jail, and the Academy wasn't being bad..lately...
"I dunno! They won't let me do any missions yet! They gave me five years as an Agent and three weeks lockdown at the Academy, so I wasn't allowed to go anywhere!"
"Welll...it was 2 weeks, but I kinda threw a chair at that demon jerk when he said he put you in jail."
He didn't take kindly to that, and cited her violent outburst as proof she was dangerous and should be locked up. Luckily for Kirien, the others seemed to be more sympathetic, feeling sorry for her as if she couldn't help who she had become. While Kirien didn't at all like being felt sorry for, she was happy to accept an additional punishment of one more week lockdown. She knew it could be a lot worse, especially since she started causing trouble, purposefully, after she was deemed 'reformable.'
"I kept asking, but they wouldn't tell me where you were!"
Three weeks holed up in the Academy with no weapons and no friends made a very bored and restless Kirien. Every day she'd show up and bully the Academy secretary, trying to get her to spit out Cylo's location. As she got more frustrated, she started going multiple times a day. But the woman was stubborn, and refused to give Kirien any more information, should she wish to break her friend out. She even found convenient reasons not to be in the office when Kirien came around, so she wouldn't have to deal with her.
Out of desperation, she once snatched a phone and dialed operator, but shouting "WHERE'S CYLO?!" and threatening the woman on the other end only led to her being hung up on.
"But one day they had someone else there, and he told me, and said I could even go visit if I want! So I did!"
The thousandth time Kirien went to interrogate her, there was a man she'd never seen before waiting for her. He surrendered the address immediately and politely, and nicely asked Kirien to stop harassing the secretary, as people were complaining about her screaming all the time. He also 'casually' mentioned that if Cylo wanted to go with his alternate punishment, he could switch at any time.
"And I have to do training like 5 times a week, and they want me to talk to a stupid counselor guy but I'm not telling him anything, and they took all my axes and these stupid Agents follow me everywhere. They were supposed to stop following me by now, but they're still here..."
In fact, she complained a number of times about being trailed, saying she felt like she needed permission to breathe. Every time her superiors promised that her time would be up soon, and one glorious day, they told her she would see them no more. The next day, she went a few hours feeling like she was all alone again, and she was happy as can be. Until she bumped into the Chameleon that was following her around. Enraged, she flew back to the office to throw some desks around, and they profusely apologized, saying there must have been some miscommunication among the Agents.
Nevertheless, the next day she had the usual two, non-invisible Agents following her around. She got sick of complaining, even though they had gone against their word, and learned to ignore her escorts.
"...do you think they'd go nuts if I hugged you?" She asked when she was facing him again, wearing a mischievous smile. "I don't care if you need legion. I can get more later."

"You get five and I get twenty-five? Ouch. Apparently I'm not as cute as I thought." Cylo may have been joking, but he was doing a good job of looking offended. Which, in fact, he was. Cylo loved Kirien, but he knew that once she started fighting, she didn't much care about her opponents coming out alive. He, at least, had only killed a man when he thought it was completely necessary, and yet they had given her far less time than he had received. He could only hope cuteness didn't actually have anything to do with it, or they were all doomed.
"But friendly neighbourhood mind demon didn't 'put me in jail'. I chose to go to jail," Cylo clarified. "Though they really didn't give me many options."
As far as Cylo was concerned, they'd given him no choice at all. He'd sooner pick death than be forced to carry out orders like "Ignore those helpless kidnapped kids, and restrain those men who just want to do our jobs for us." In fact, he would probably have to be dead to not at least try to save them.
"Remind me to shake that man's hand," Cylo said, filling in the blanks with a scenario surprisingly like the one Kirien had actually gone through. It had about the same amount of yelling and threat-making, but a much higher percentage of scantily-clad Kirien and randomly malfunctioning sprinkler systems.
He laughed airily at hearing of her misfortunes, but was stopped from saying anything by her next comment. "I don't know if they'd care, as long as you stayed out there, but I'm serious. You can get more energy later, but I don't want them to have to carry you out. I might be able to stop myself from taking that much, but I'd rather not risk it."
It wasn't at all easy to pass up a hug from the young woman who held sway over his heart, but he would rather see her (conscious) face and be able to talk to her for awhile than get one hug and have to say goodbye.

"Well I think you're cute." Kirien offered poutily, idly stroking the bars of his cage with her fingertips. She was no longer angry with them for keeping her from Cylo. She was sad. She knew that Cylo would be locked up, but somehow she thought she'd be able to at least grab his hand, something, but the stupid prison jerks were starving him. Being able to look and not touch was just frustrating. And disappointing.
Maybe because she was wearing gloves, it wouldn't be so bad? She wiggled her fingers as she examined her gloves, thoughtful. But they only came up to her wrists, and her arms were bare.
He probably doesn't wanna risk it, with exposed skin so close by...stupid Cylo! Stupid mean prison jerks! She thought to herself gloomily, pfft-ing a stubborn strand of hair out of her face.
"You should switch. I think maybe they want you to switch." She suggested hopefully, remembering how the man had been so nice about letting her see Cylo. Maybe they wanted to recruit him all along? "They're not right, but you don't have to do bad things! I'm not gonna burn children. Just say you won't do it. At least you wouldn't be locked up forever!"

"Thanks babe," Cylo said with a grin. "You're not so bad yourself."
Behind the grin, his mind was racing. He could feel the sadness emanating from Kirien, on top of it being written across her face for anyone to see, but he had to keep his chin up. The more worried she was about him, the worse things would be for her. And behind all this, there lurked the desire to be able to hold the woman he loved in his arms.
He knew it was supposed to help, but her visit was just making him even more anxious to leave, for both their sakes.
Cylo sat down on the floor in front of Kirien, cross-legged. Bending over to stay at eye level was getting uncomfortable, and it sort of gave him the feeling of looking down on her, which he didn't like.
"Switch?"
Cylo had no idea what she was talking about until she elaborated, and even then it took him a minute. He found himself almost getting mad at her (Was this the only reason she came to see him? To try to get him to change his mind?) but he quickly stifled the feelings. He could understand where she was coming from. He wasn't the only one who wanted to be with their lover.
"It's not a volunteer gig, Kirien. They don't let you pick and choose what orders to follow. The minute I decide I don't buy what they're selling, I'd be back behind bars again. Probably for longer. Nobody wants that."
He was staring at the floor by this point. He was a little surprised they would let him switch. It must have been an image thing, he decided. It would look better on their record to have him on staff than in jail, and he would be more productive for their means that way, too.
"Are you getting paid?" he asked suddenly, looking up at Kirien with mischief playing behind his eyes.

"I know." Kirien answered sulkily, copying Cylo's position so she was also seated, cross-legged. She didn't like looking down on him, either, and being on the same level as he, separated only by some very annoying bars, made her feel closer to him. "I won't do anything bad. If they want me to do something I don't wanna I won't and they can put me in a cell, too! But until then, I'm free. I can go places and see people and...and...twenty five years is a long time!"
For an immortal, twenty five years shouldn't have been a long time, but waiting for them to give Cylo the freedom he deserved was taking quite the toll on her. Everything was just so...lonely...and time was moving so slowly...she was sure she'd go crazy before they could really be together again.
She rested her head on the cell bars and breathed a heavy sigh.
"You're too...perfect. Your noble-ness is frustrating!"

Cylo noted that Kirien hadn't answered his question, but somewhere in the midst of drinking in her sight he'd lost his mischievous train of thought.
"What's to say they won't give me an order I don't like as soon as I get out of here?" Cylo posited. "I could be right back where I am the next day, without the get out of jail free card I have right now." He couldn't be one hundred percent sure, but he doubted they would be willing to pluck him right back out of jail again to try being an Agent one more time.
"Or, I could bide my time until the Academy shapes up, and become an Agent under more sensible leadership, or even have the punishment taken back."
He rested his own head on the other side of the bars from Kirien's, which was unfortunately the closest to her he was willing to risk getting.
"'Nobleness' aside, do you really want to have no chance of being with me for the next twenty-five years?"

"Well maybe they won't!" She persisted, fighting back a smile as he drew nearer. His refusal to accept her offer was making her frustrated and upset...and the fact that her lips wanted to smile at him was making her even more emotionally-confused! Hmph! Maybe she could just beat the guards up and beat up his stupid cell until it let him out?
But if she did that, the Academy would probably try hunting them down so they could punish them or whatever. She could try saying it wasn't her and all the damage came afterward and everyone was just blaming her because they didn't like how she was bossing them around earlier, but that was a stupid idea. No one would believe that...and what if they tried to blame Cylo and get him in even more trouble-he-didn't-even-deserve?
"Maybe they won't give a stupid order. And maybe you won't have wasted your get out of jail free card. Why do you care about having one if you're not even gonna use it ever, huh?! It could take forever for the stupid Academy to prove itself to you!"
She yanked herself away from Cylo's cell and angrily began pacing in circles. The smile that had been feebly tugging at her lips was replaced by a deep frown.
"GRRR! I HATE EVERYTHING!" She shouted, irritated, and kicked a small crater into the wall. It took a few minutes of heavy breathing while staring at her little wall-crater before she calmed down enough to say anything else to Cylo.
"Fine. I'll just have to find another way to get you out..."

Kirien's valiant battle against the forces of facial happiness only served to make Cylo smile himself, despite being convinced it was a bad idea given the situation.
"It could take forever. It might never happen, considering the way they've handled things so far. I---"
He frowned slightly as Kirien vented her frustration. He hadn't intended to get her riled up. In fact, seeing her like that for the first time in... well, he couldn't even remember the last time, but he knew he didn't want her to be unhappy again. He was about to make a suggestion when she finally spoke.
"Another way out? Like what?" he asked, genuinely curious if a little apprehensive.

"Well..." She started, suddenly reluctant to disclose her backup plan. What if he assumed she thought he'd be difficult and got offended? What if he didn't like her idea? She didn't even like her idea, but it was the first, quickest thing she could think of! She nibbled her bottom lip hesitantly and thought about her options.
I have to tell him! She concluded unhappily. What if it's time to get him out and he's all confused? That'd just mess everything up!
She moodily blew a strand of hair out of her face before caving in. "They're gonna have a really big contest where all people can compete to see who's the best. It's gonna be on TV. I didn't know it was gonna be on TV! Now there's stupid people following me around everywhere and I can't even do anything about it cause if I make their arms come off I can't win and they'd put me in jail, too!" She thought of the pale, nerdy ordinaries who picketed signs professing their love for her, and made a disgusted face.
"There's supposed to be three prizes if you win, and you get to pick one. Lots of money, a big house, and a trip to someplace. So, I know everyone likes money a lot so...I kinda...entered myself in it...If I win, maybe I can convince The Academy people to let you go if I give them a lot of money. People like money...right?" She paused, as if expecting to be scolded.

Cylo patiently waited for Kirien's thoughts to process, but if her reluctance to tell him her plan counted for anything, he was almost positive he wouldn't like the end result. In fact, so convinced was he that she was up to no good, plotting a jailbreak or something of the like, that he actually laughed as he figured out her plan, relieved that he had been so wrong.
He'd gleaned that she'd entered before she actually admitted she had, more or less at the same moment he figured out the 'stupid people' following her were fans.
His urge to kiss her silly faces conflicted with his instinct to keep her safe, and he ended up simply smiling warmly. "They sure do," he said with another laugh, suddenly in a great mood. "You've got that thing in the bag, too. I'll be out in a couple weeks!"
The guards, who had been conflicted as to whether to approach the demoness while she was smashing concrete with her bare hands, took this new calm as an ideal moment to butt in.
"Visiting hours are over, Miss Melantha. It's time to go."

Kirien's brows furrowed in confusion as he laughed at her plan. She didn't see how it was funny! She thought it was a good plan!
Why is he laughing? Can't he see how hard I'm trying?! She thought to herself, feeling hurt. She would have bashed his pretty face in if he wasn't making her all hesitant with all that...smiling...
When he demonstrated his approval, she gave a childish "hmph," but soon she was fighting to keep herself from smiling like an idiot once more. A couple weeks! She was elated. When the troublesome guard told her it was time to go, she simply shrugged her shoulders; she was entirely too excited to be slinging death threats!
"Bye bye, Cylo!" Kirien chirped, waving a little more enthusiastically than she needed to. "I'll see you soon!"

Cylo was glad to see Kirien in such a good mood, especially when it persisted after she figured out she had to leave. A couple minutes earlier and there would have been bodyguard pulp lining the walls. The people following her around apparently had some amount of intelligence, it seemed.
"You bet," Cylo said. "Go kick some butt!"
Given something to look forward to, Cylo was sure his stay would be much less horrible. However, he wasn't as sure as he sounded that money would solve all their problems.
