This was it, the last little adjustment to perfect it. He held a screwdriver tightly in his grip, sweating profusely as he finally finished it, the best experiment he had ever conducted.
It had been hard enough to track down a willing subject, and deciphering the brain waves had been tricky too. Even then, the best he could manage was altering one set power, into another set power with a set effect, all at a short range. He'd been confused for a while on what he should do with it, and then the idea came to him. If this worked, it would be a major breakthrough in his research. Granted it was clunky, needed his gift to function, and could only do one thing, but it was a step in the right direction. With a final turn of the tool in his hand, he tapped shut the back of what appeared to be a small amulet.
He stood before a full length mirror in the common room, observing himself. He then clasped the necklace on, letting the amulet rest plainly on his chest, contacting the skin. Then he focused the current in his chest, and felt the amulet's magic and technology mix spring to life. His chest started to feel like fire was running through it, and he doubled over with an immense cramp for a moment. As quick as it came, it left, and he was left kneeling in the room, feeling very much the same as he did before.
He tried to move his tail and felt it swaying, it was still there, and then he looked in the mirror.
A very different image looked back at him, the boy in the mirror had dark hair, not the blue his usually was, and he had normal human ears, along with no tail. He raised his hands, and still felt his fuzzy ears. But then that meant, it had worked?
He paused for just a moment before he let out a whoop of success so loud it could be hear outside the common room.

Hey, Everyone can feel like they're alone. That's why we get scared. There's nothing to be afraid of, though.I will be there to hug you tight. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - “IT'S SO COLDD!!” Lesson One: Don't forget your jacket when it's cold.
There were only a few people in the hallways this early in the morning, but none of them seem surprised at all to see Miki dashing through the hallway. Since the cold weather had moved in, so had another event; Miki forgeting her jacket. All she had on was her sweater, jeans and slippers, and they didn't provide that much warmth. 'Why am I even wearing slippers?' she thought. 'Because they are comfy' her mind retorted. 'Oh, right.'
It wasn't too long after she entered the Academy that she slipped and fell butt-first. Lesson Two: Don't run in slippers because they fail at it.
“Ow...” she muttered as she stared at the ceiling. Now, a normal person would have gotten up and dusted themself off by now. By as we all know, Miki passed normal the day she turned three. So, she just lied there, dead, staring into space for about five minutes. Five whole minutes. Some people stared, and one guy even approached her and asked if she felt ill.
In response, Miki shot up and flipped onto her feet, scaring the hell out of the man and causing him to run away screaming. 'Am I that funny looking?' She cocked a brow, but proceeded to the dormitories anyway.
This time she walked, but it was more like a power walk. Her arms went back and forth in a childish manner, but she didn't care. She never really did, mostly because she just loved to enjoy herself no matter what anyone thought.
As she neared the dormitory, she heard someone yell. Lesson Three: Take into consideration whether the yell sounded positive or negative, then proceed to grab a weapon.
The doors of the dormitory flew open, revealing the common room and its occupant who was obviously fine. However, Miki didn't notice as she waved her orphan stick in the air.
“FREEZE! I got you now!”

Locke stared at himself in the mirror for a moment more in pure joy. Fianlly he could see the bigger world without having to wear some odd gettup! This was great!
The person storming through the door wasn't new, but when he turned to see who it was he jumped. An odd girl brandishing a stick shouting at him like a cop. His recoil was involuntary, but at the same time his power surged from the surprise.
This small power surge was followed by a small pop and smoke from the pendant he'd just put on, as he returned to his normal appearance. He stared down in horror at the now broken invention, no more then a piece of scrap.
"No! No no no! Damnit all!" He cursed, ripping the pendant from around his neck, snapping the chain and looking at it. The insides were fried, it was un-repairable. Damn it where had he gone wrong? It should have worked...
"Ragh!" He shouted, throwing the scrap of metal into the far wall. He stayed there for a moment more, his anger seething before he remembered who had caused this initial distraction. He rounded on her.
"Well? What do you want?"

She definitely recognized him, but she didn't remember ever actually being face to face with him. And now she was face to face, but he face was very angry compared to her face that was flushed with embarrasment.
“Wh-what? I'm, I'm so sorry!” she stuttered, lowering her hands and scrambling for words. Many things were going through her head. He looked perfectly fine just a second ago, and now he has ears and a tail. Is that normal? What was that thing around his necK? I'm going to get hit with something, I know it. Why does it smell so good in here?
“I was just coming back to get my jacket...I forgot it and...I heard screaming and...” she murmured, her explaination turning into a tone that was almost a whisper. “I just thought...yeah.”
Her eyebrowed arched in frustration and her brown eyes were fixated on him. “Are you okay?”

OOC: I'm sorry for making you wait so long, won't let it happen again, promise.
IC: Locke scowled as he walked over to the broken and battered piece of machinery he had thrown in his frustration. His logic was kicking in now, and that was fortunate for Miki. It wasn't her fault, if all it took was a surprise to fry the thing then it was not ready to be used. He'd need to put some kind of rectifier in there to handle those possible power surges...
"It's not your fault." He said, while still not looking at her. "I'm just frustrated, now you came back for your jacket right? Your forgiven for your outburst and distraction, so please don't let me stop you."
He moved aside over to a small desk and pulled a small set of glasses from his breast pocket as he looked over the fused machinery. Completely fried, what a disaster. Once again he answered her question without looking at her. "I'm fine, exactly as I should be...that's the problem."

Miki eyed the broken machine sadly. If she hadn't had freaked out, making assumptions, the boy's machine would still be intact. And doing whatever important thing it needed to. She lowered her head a little, in shame.
"Sorry again," she started, bounding up the stairs to her dorm, mid sentence. She briskly tugged her jacket off of it's hanger and bounded right back down the stairs. "Maybe I can help you fix it?" she finished, breathing slightly harder. Miki knelt down near it and looked the broken thing over curiously, inspecting every little piece on it.
At his last words, she frowned. Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion and she stood up to face him. "Why is that a problem? You look just fine to me."
