Locke barely noticed Holly until she was practically on top of him. Before she could reach out to him he reached out to Kiri.
What do I say? What can I possibly do to make it better?
He then felt the chill run through him. It was cold out, that wasn't good for a girl like Kiri.
"You'll catch a cold." He said, putting his hand on her shoulder. "Come on. Staying out here and getting sick won't help anyone." He then felt Holly's hand on his shoulder, and heard the question she asked.
"My name is Locke." He said almost like a robot. "She is Kiri." He felt it important to introduce her, though he couldn't for the life of him imagine why.
"Come on, we should go inside." Locke said, gently pulling on Kiri's shoulder.

The instant she heard his voice she started sobbin even harder because he came for her. Because he worried for her when he was the one who'd just experienced some horrible nightmare. She was so selfish to cry like this to let him see her crumble while he stayed strong. To think they called him monster, no, the monster between the two of them was her.
Kiri pulled away from his touch shaking her head slowly. "It's not cold. I'm fine. Go with the nice lady." There was no way that she was going to make him take care of a monster. She'd left Star, she hadn't protected Locke, hadn't even known he was missing! Kiri covered her face wanting to scream again, but couldn't with the two so close.
Th grey wolf whimpered and nudged her hands then turned one clear eye to the cat eared boy. His look was easily read even to those who could not speak to animals. A look that said, 'he knew this kind of pain, help her.' He whined again lickng the tears flowing between her fingers. That's when he caught a slight movement in the trees, and lifting his nose upwards he stood hairs rising. With one last glance at the three huddled close he trotted off to the forest.
Kiri had ignored the comforting actions of the wolf then felt the cool breeze of his absence. Lifting her face clear of her hands she saw him move towards the trees. Even a beast couldn't stand being near her. I'm horrible. Horrible. A monster. A wicked, cruel, heartless person. She turned pools of tears toward Locke. Her kind, loving, caring, selfless boy.
"You're far too good for me...especiall after what I've done. G-g-go in side. Please. You need the comfort." She needed to disappear.

Locke heard her sobbing more and wanted to collapse further. He made her so sad, his very existence. "Don't..." What, cry? But she wanted to cry, he had no reason to say that she shouldn't.
And then she pulled away from him, and his face fell in shock. He wanted to cry himself, and felt tears streaming down his face. "Kiri...w-why?" He choked out "I...won't leave you alone, cold and scared...Kiri I-I love you, that doesn't change. Please don't do this."
After the wolf walked away, Kiri looked about ready to start bawling. And then she told him to leave. After all she'd done?
"K-Kiri....you d-don't mean that...you...your the...your the best....thing that ever...happened to me....so please." Oh great, now he was crying too. All he could do was crawl closer to her again and wrap his arms around her, pulling her back to him.
"I...can't lose you...I almost did...once...not again."

"Ah, Kiri," Holly nodded, looking to the small blonde girl. "You're nearly as pretty as my brother said you were."
She glanced to Locke then, nodding. The catboy struck her as being oddly dependable, especially for being as young as he is. Generally boys that age weren't good for much of anything, yet Locke appeared to take care of Kiri quite well. And their conversation was quite mature, almost too mature for their age.
"Kiri," Holly spoke in the "mom voice," "whatever it is, I'm sure there's someone around here who's done something worse. Kennedy was an absolutely horrible person for most of his life, and we still love him. Besides, Locke clearly loves you," she nodded to the boy, then stepped toward Kiri. Slipping an arm around the girl, Holly gave her a tight hug. She'd been doing a lot of that lately.
"Let's go inside and think this all through, alright? Clean up, and eat some comfort food."
Holly started gently directing Kiri inside.

She shook her head no abe to listen to his sorrow filled words, to listen to those tears. Her hands covered her ears wishing she was deaf. Ever since those voices, how much she wished she couldn't hear.
"Why are you being so kind to me? I left him! I abandoned him to the darkness." Kiri melted into his arms even though her mind told her not to. When the nice lady's arm fell around her as well she couldn't take it. "Stop it! I'm horrible! I left him! He's missing and...I did nothing!"
Her hands gripped at Locke's bloodied shirt as she sobbed. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." She stood letting the kind hearted, beautiful woman guide her into the house. Kiri glanced over her shoulder for the wolf but he was gone. She'd have to tell Rae that her friend was gone. Everyone keeps disappearing on her. Her mind panicked and she turned quickly to attack Locke in a fierce hug.
"No, don't disappear. Please don't disappear. Everyone keeps leaving. You disappeared. I found you. Star gone. Wolf gone. People-disappear. Don't-" She started sobbing again the last of her resolve finally shattering.

Locke wanted to cry too, he felt weak, he felt sad, he felt....alone. Like the only thing that was anchoring him to this world was the girl he held on to as if his life depended on it.
Locke had to say something, and his brain was happy to provide something he'd read.
"You aren't perfect. Neither am I. If you were, then I wouldn't deserve you..."
"I'm weak...I'm a coward...I'm not even a good person, I don't help people unless I can get something from it...but...you make me...act different. I care, I can be strong, I can have courage...all because of you, because you are. I..." He shook his head to dislodge a tear. "I'm weak, and you're weak...but together, we can make each other strong. You lean on me...and I'll lean on you..."
Wow, that was over the top, but still, he meant it so that was good right?
He hoped, oh what he would give for these 2 days to have never happened.

These children were more dramatic then a bad soap opera.
"Alright, we get it, you're both horrible people who don't deserve each other," agreed Holly. she placed a hand on Kiri, pushing her the rest of the way to the house. Along the way, she managed to snag Locke, gently pushing him along. "Look, I'm not sure what's happened with all you children, but you can't let it get to you like this . Just... forget about it. Listen, I have a huge collection of Disney movies. Why don't you just sit on the couch and lose yourself among some singing monkeys or something?"
She tried directing the bemoaning couple back into the house. Right now, that's where she wanted all of them: safe, under her roof.
"you can even cuddle. Though I'd recommend showering first.'
she paused, looking up the stairs. "I think there's even one available..."

All this crying and screaming and worrying was wearing on her as the three of them entered the house. She might not know anything about relationships, or the fact that other people had done far worse than she. The thing she knew was that Locke was here, and safe. But she also knew that she'd abandoned a friend something she'll regret for the rest of her long life.
"Ms. Pretty lady? May...may I have something to drink?" Her throat felt pretty raw after that little episode. Though she still felt miserable at least she had people to care for her. The sobbing had taken what was left of her energy and all she wanted was to curl up somewhere and sleep.
~~~
Outside the wolf was following the odd scent of what used to be a boy, who then was a wolf. He might not see very well, he might have even heard anything but a rabbit in the underbrush. But he knew that smell unless he was just picking up what was on his own fur, but he doubted it. His sniffer was usually right.
Star watched silently as Kiri cried, but was unable to be comforted. It was his fault. He should show himself... but would he? Could he face her?
Star struggled with himself until it was too late; they were gone. Star despised himself for putting Kiri through this, despised his cowardliness when he was supposed to be brave. He flew back down to the ground, still wondering what course of action to take.
He was so busy trying not to be seen, he didn't even notice the wolf.
A flash of movement caught his eye and he jerked his head to focus on it, but by the time he'd turned his head it was gone again. He growled a bit in frustration because all he wanted was to find out if this was friend or foe he was dealing with here. If it was that boy like his nose told him it was then he'd just lead the kid to the others. If not, then he'd have to defend the unsuspecting kids inside.
His paws slipped him through the trees shadows silently as he followed the scent right up to the fae boy. His eye was still having some difficulty seeing because of the blindness but he saw something, and it wasn't a rabbit. Eryk circled round to the rear of the boy then let out a deep throated, loud, snapping bark. He wanted to startle the kid out to the open. Ater the noise he stood to his full, yet still not all the huge, height. The hair even bristled out a bit to make him appear even larger, good trick wolves have when facing off with outsiders.
Eryk took one step forward ears pointed forward as he let out another loud growling bark. Another step forward, another bark. He'd either usher this kid to the open or he'd get someone in the house's attention. No one got left out with him around, and if he'd known the little wolf had vanished back at the bad place then he'd have done something. This kid needed help just as much as the others from what he could remember back at the lab.
He lowered his head and barked-growled at the boy once more taking a step forward.
It was at this time that "Michael" finally headed down stairs. Casey's alter-ego had already cleaned up, and he'd somehow managed to find enough clothes to look properly dressed. He'd even gotten along fairly well with the children, playing Wii with them while the "grown-ups" talked about what was going on. Of course, Casey tried to listen, but only caught bits and pieces. No one quite trusted him yet, and even if they did, they considered him a child.
Now he looked around, surprised to see all the sad expressions. They looked as if they'd just survived a war or something. Shouldn't they be excited? They were free now, after all...
"What's going on?" he asked, looking for someone specific to talk to. He finally located a kid who looked to be around his age (Matt), and tried to pump him for information. Anything Casey could report back to the Academy would be swell...
Locke wasn't expecting the snag from behind as he was with Kiri, and almost snapped at Holly, until he saw something inside the house.
Toys, childrens toys. She was a mother, and she just wanted to act like a mother, to try and help anyway she could. So instead of being indignint and thinking only about what he wanted, perhaps he should cut her some slack. After all, she already had the broken kid and Garion, Locke and Morgan were easily in the best shape of the captives, which meant he had to be strong. On his way into the house Locke collected his coat from the floor, slinging it over one arm.
"A shower, right. Yes, of course you are correct." Locke said, following the path Garion had gone, he stopped and turned around after only a few steps.
"Ummm...I'm not sure what your name was, so thank you Ms. Cavan." He said with a nod of his head. "I...um...appreciate it."
And with that he hurried away to wash the weariness and grime away, his tail swishing back and forth as he moved.
Matt stood away from the commotion, silently watching everyone. Many a time he looked like he was about to spring off to comfort someone, but he ended up just shifting his weight from foot to foot, awkward, uncomfortable, and unhappy. As much as he'd like to comfort Locke, Garion, or the pretty blonde girl that was Kiri, he felt it wasn't his place. Somehow, everyone seemed to already know each other, and they could comfort each other better than he could ever.
He made his way to the couch Locke was formerly sitting upon, and let himself fall back into the soft cushions. His head hurt, no thanks to the mess of fast-paced gibberish that was his thoughts, and his eyelids were heavy. He thought about sleeping, as he stared blankly up at the ceiling, but he knew that couldn't be an option, not when he was in a strange place surrounded by people he didn't know or trust. But his eyes were closing...
Michael's question jolted him out of his sleepy state so quickly that he jumped and quivered, half-expecting to see Dr. Marshall come to snatch him up again. A few deep breaths helped to calm him again, and he kept chanting to himself, 'No one here is bad. No one here is bad.' But when he answered Michael, he immediately became defensive, shouting his words and squishing himself deep into the couch, as if it's many cushions could shield him.
"He killed someone. People died. What does it look like?! What's wrong with you people?! Who kidnaps a bunch of kids and threatens to torture them and is so, so s-set on finding...whatever that they try and kill the people who...who..."
His words were gone, and he was shaking his head over and over, willing everything to just go back to normal.
What had these kids been through? This didn't sound... murder? They'd seen a murder? This wasn't what the Academy had been expecting, had it? Had Casey's bosses anticipated a bunch of kids murdering someone? What exactly was going on here?
"Who killed whom?" asked "Michael." He sat on the edge of the couch, looking at Matt and hoping he didn't look too intense. "Slow down. You're babbling."
But Casey was able to get a lot of the babble. It didn't sound good. Not. Good. At all.
"I'm on your side, man!" insisted Casey, attempting to talk like a teenager would. "So, like, chill. I have no idea what you're talking about. With all this killing and stuff? What happened to you guys?"
It sounded bad... what was Casey going to say?
Leo was in a bad state now. His body had recovered JUST enough for him to start feeling the tremendous pain of living through a miniature solar flare at point blank. And the pain would only get worse as time went on, assuming he survived this. He became conscious of someone in the room besides himself, and struggled to see who it was.
His vision was still hazy, but he'd seen enough. Drop dead gorgeous red head, with clothes this time unfortunately.
While normally he would give her a charming and witty greeting, or at least something sly and shallow, all he could really manage today was a simple.
"Yo."
