You may have noticed the recent flood of ads posted on My Own Shadow. This seems to be because we just started advertising, and people who are advertising their own sites follow our link, see we have an advertising section, and post their ad.
It's gotten so severe that sometimes ads are all that show up in our Most Recent Posts. This makes us look like a dead site to any potential new members, and no one wants to join a dead site.
It has been suggested that we make our advertising section members-only, and create a rule where only members with a certain number of posts can create an ad, to prevent creation of accounts that exist solely for advertising. However, doing this can limit where we can advertise our site. What are your thoughts?
Until a decision is reached, please try to post more often so we can battle these ads.

Okay, so they are really bothering me, basically on just the courtesy front.
I'm not a fan of post count requirement, as that appears too rigid a rule, but however, I like that before any ads can be posted from a member, they must first become involved with this site. I wouldn't want anyone to have the effort to make an account here, only to post ads.
Right now, these ads are just too much. I don't want to come onto our site and only get to see other people's ads. When I check in, I want to see our people posting about their lives, threads or in their threads. Until we pick up activity, ads are going to overwhelm our recent post list.
I propose that we make the advertising section members only, right now. I'm not gonna lie, it grinds my gears.

Nacht, it's all taken care of :)
I added a password to the board - don't enter it, and the ads won't show up :) It's even Guest friendly still, so they can do their thang and we don't have to worry about it crowding our board :D

But I'll still see it when I'm a guest ? Not unless you put in the password when you're a guest.
