Geography
The Academy campus has two main buildings; the Academy Building and Penumbra University. The Academy Building is the oldest and most-occupied building on the campus, containing the dormitories, classrooms, and cafeteria for students aged 11 and to 18. Students who are 18 or older may pursue higher education at Penumbra University, which is conveniently located just next door. Other campus locations include libraries (one for each age group), parking garages, and Dr. Redwicke's Medical Practice.
On the outskirts are several neatly manicured gardens, a lake surrounded by perfectly situated shade trees, and an impressive forest that also houses a network of caves.
Once every year or so, the Academy changes location to keep the Ordinaries from stumbling across it. Over the years, the Academy has disappeared and reappeared everywhere from England to Australia; it's current location is Brooklyn, New York. However, how it manages this relocation remains unknown...

The Academy was founded several hundred years ago by the very first Gifted, as a place to hone their skills and interact with the supernatural world. Students typically begin schooling at the age of 11, and are required to continue their education until age 18, but exceptions are not unheard of. Once their schooling is complete, students are encouraged to attend classes at Penumbra University.
At the Academy, individual studies are highly emphasized, but tutors will also give lectures from time to time. Attendance is optional, though encouraged. Students deemed too young or inexperienced for individual study will be trained by tutors.
The Academy is also serves as a sort of "base" for the Gifted community; most Gifted choose to work for the Academy after graduation, and all Academy employees, be they Agents, Tutors, or Researchers, are invited to stay there.
