She had just had a lengthy meeting with financial aid, then registrar's, then she had to go to another place to tell them she didn't want to live on campus. But there was supposedly some rule that unless you had been a resident of New York city for a year then you had to live on campus. University rules were some of the most idiotic things. So now she had to explain to Rae that they couldn't live together for an entire year. It had taken a lot of convincing and some of waving money around to make sure she had her own room. Now that everything was all cleared up and all the papers were signed and all the t's crossed she was exhausted.
This place was lucky they had a coffee shop otherwise they'd be dealing with a very pissy war dragon. She ordered a large slushy coffee thing, a large iced cappuccino thing, and a large coffee shake. All flavored mocha and dolloped with whipped cream and chocolate syrup. Yep, this school was darn lucky they had coffee. Usually she tried to stay away from coffee and simply drank tea, but today tea would not cut it. She'd gotten very little sleep last night, and she'd been up since five am because she was afraid of being late for her meeting at seven. New York traffic an all that.
So there she sat with the most coffee she'd ever ingested in her entire life simply staring at it. Now that she had it she was almost afraid to drink it. But then with a mischievous smile she grabbed the slushy thing and took a long sip from the straw. Boy, New York was going to be a very bad influence on her. First drinking at elven am now drinking enough caffeine to hype up a coma patient. And she didn't even want to think about the calories that were in this trio. But she could work it off later with a ten mile jog or something.
Taking a sip from the ice cappuccino now she sighed closing her eyes. "Damn I love coffee."

"Ah ken tha' already," drawled Rae. She slid into the seat across from Eve, favoring her girlfriend with a cocksure grin that promised much. Naturally the rock star didn't appear to notice the attention that she always brought with her, the same attention which often seemed to be partially brought upon Eve. Rae had actually attempted to lean on the registrar herself, not to mention throwing a little money around. it was amazing what a few donations could do.
"Ye drink tha' much an' ye goin' tae be needin' somethin' for ye heart, lass," Rae pointed out. Without bothering to ask, she leaned over and took a sip of the shake. Tasted good, though Rae wouldn't mind having a bit more of Eve's own personal flavor to go along with it. She leaned back for now, fixing her "mate" with a level gaze.
"How did it go wit' th' high oopitity oops? Ah disnae have tae lean on anybody, do ah? Hate ta use m'clout oop so early in th' semester," said Rae. She moved to drum her hand on the table, the beat of her latest hit dominating her mind. Didn't help that she could almost feel it going through the thoughts and minds of the people around her. Didn't people realize that there was more to her than music? Well, not much more. Music, fighting, sex, and, well, whatever this thing she had with Eve counted as. Probably a mix of all three.
"Ye'll be oot whenever it's play time. be no fun for me," complained Rae, leaning forward onto an elbow. She clearly cared only so much for her own question, and already her eyes were wandering over Eve's muscular form.

Of all the people to suddenly plop down in front of her she had not been expecting her girl friend. Eyes going wide in shock for a second or so she glared at Rae for a second on the comment about caffeine being bad for her. "Well, if someone hadn't kept me up late I wouldn't need so much coffee."
She didn't do anything as Rae snatched the shake she had her slushy thing and um the other thing, iced cappuccino thing. Sipping from her cup she watched Rae for a moment listening to that sexy accent of hers. Man that accent turned her to mush every time. Not that she'd tell Rae that but it was a nice little tid bit to experience. With a grin she leaned back into her chair shaking her head at Rae.
"No, you don't need to lean on anyone. It was a bit rough for a little while but I got everything worked out." She played with her straw for a bit stirring in the whipped cream and chocolate syrup into her drink. "I have some clout to if you remember. Being a dragon does have some perks."
She truly did love Rae's accent but sometimes the words that came out of her mouth flew right over her head. What had she just said? Blinking she tried to process the words and came up blank which tended to happen a lot when she was around Rae. Shifting she shrugged sipping on her drink turning her eyes downward to stare at the folder of paperwork.
"Um...I don't know if you know this but...um...we can't live together...anymore." Either that was what Rae just said or she just opened a whole new can of worms to deal with. She was hoping for the first scenario because she really didn't want to upset Rae. Even if she was a war dragon she hated fighting with the werewolf.

"Isnae all m'fault," insisted Rae. She tried to look offended but wound up grinning instead. Last night had been fun. Come to think of it, most nights with Eve fell into the "fun" category. Why else would Rae be sticking around? Besides the obvious hotness.
"Ya ken, I keep forgettin' tha' wee bit," drawled Rae. She smirked at her girlfriend, leaned back, and plopped a couple of feet onto Eve's lap. Soon they'd be moving about, wiggling and demanding as much attention as the rock star wanted (i.e. more than humanly possible). "Tha' would explain th' scratch marks an' such. Nae ta' mention th' mornin' breath."
Rae took another sip of the drink, smiling around it. She knew damn well that Eve hated to talk about their relationship in public like that. Didn't bother Rae in the slightest, obviously. She'd actually written songs about it, which was a bit unusual for her, since she usually had people do that instead. Some things just created inspiration.
"Why nae?" asked Rae. She blinked, looked into Eve's eyes, and shifted. Her feet remained on the dragon, but now it was quite evident that they could be used for kicking as well as nudging for pleasure. "Tol' ye ah can lean on 'em a bit. Been throwin' money at th' school, least they can do is let me live wit' m'damn lass."
Rae glared, her fist tightening about the shake. The cup began to cave slightly, bits of frosty liquid leaking down the sides. Rae's eyes narrowed into dangerous slits, flashing slightly yellow.

She rolled her eyes but bit down on her straw to keep from reacting in any such girlie way as was running through her head. Blushing never really happened to her, except with Rae, but even then it happened very rarely. This was not one of those times and she'd make sure of that. Sitting there contently with the werewolf across from her she ran her to do list through her head as she sipped her drink.
The bad thing about coffee drinks is that they tended to run out rather quickly. The loud sucking empty noise filled her ears in disgruntlement. Glaring at the empty cup she tossed it at the nearest trash can grinning as it went in. Her mind jerked back to their conversation when the mentioning of scratching got brought up. Eyes flashing she bared her teeth at Rae for bringing that kind of stuff up. "Hey, I have to go to school here. Mind keepin' that crap down?"
She had morning breath? Sure she was a dragon but she didn't know she had bad breath. Running her tongue over her teeth she made a mental note to get stronger mouth wash. Eve grabbed the iced coffee drink next and started inhaling it. She played with Rae's feet up until the can of worms was opened.
Cringing she started scooting her chair back not at all wanting to be kicked. "Um, well, I tried using my clout...and yours...and they still said unless you attend the school you can't live with me. And if they make exceptions for me they'll have to start making exceptions for everyone kind of crud." Her eyes darted down to the floor then back up to Rae trying to clearly show that she wasn't happy with this predicament either. She loved Rae, realizing this not too long ago, even if she hadn't told the werewolf just yet. And she didn't want to part from her.
When you were used to living with a person and seeing them everyday the idea of suddenly cutting them from your life was terrifying. Her kind as much as she was raised to believed pretty much mated for life and as far as she was concerned she wasn't going to ever leave Rae's side. At least for now when she wasn't royally pissed at her.

The flashing eyes and snapping tone only made Rae grin all the wider. You'd think by now that Eve would realize that Rae actually liked it when she got rough, when she stood up for herself and used that backbone that everyone and their brother knew she had. Hell, they'd met over a bar fight, and things had only gone downhill from there. Speaking of downhill, Rae recalled a certain fight where she got her head handed to her, all because of Eve's silly "you have to be stronger than me to mate with me" rule. That had clearly worked out.
"Sounds like we need tae have a wee little chat wit' th' blighters," insisted Rae. She took another long slurp of her own caffeinated drink, her smile going feral. It had been a long time since someone had tried to take away something that Rae truly cared about. In fact, it almost reminded her of... no, no, she wasn't going to think about that. Not here. Not now. They had other things to worry about without dragging skeletons out of Rae's closet.
Besides, Rae had been out of the closet for years now.
"Tha's jus' th' bleedin' party line. They give ye all th' rubbish o'er an' o'er again," insisted Rae. She waved a hand, the silver charms on her bracelet jingling against one another. "Tain't as though it means a d**n thin'. It's jus' their way o' soundin' like they have a wee bit o' control o'er th' whole mess."
Rae took another sip, considered. It was entirely possible that there was another reason why Eve had elected not to stay with Rae. Sure, the school might very well be going with what they'd told the dragon; Rae doubted it, but it was possible. There was also a slim chance that they wanted Rae to reenroll in the school. Fat chance. The Cavans had vanished, and about the only people left in the school that Rae even cared about were, well, faeries or sitting across from her.
"Ye do want ta' live wit' me, righ'?" asked Rae. She locked eyes with Eve, trying not to let her fear and disappointment show. surely that couldn't possibly be the reason. Because if it was, Eve was going to get her ass kicked but good.

It felt good to have someone to stick up for her and fight on her side for a change. But it also felt rather odd to do those things for her as well. She was so used to fighting against people to make her way in the world. She had to fight off her fellow hatchlings to live, she had to fight her other brothers for the best toys, had to fight her parents to do practically anything, and the list went on. Before she'd always stood alone for the fight and in the end was the one left standing alone as well. Whether she lost or won she had faced it with the only thing beside her being her shadow.
But now she had Rae. If she wanted to go on tour with her she didn't have to fight the rest of the band or manager to get to go. If she wanted to live with the rock star she didn't have to face the school by herself. Hopefully Rae would stand by her side when Eve had to face her family. But she'd put that off for now.
Sitting quietly sipping her iced coffee she stared at Rae meekly watching the emotions play over her girl friend's face. The last words out of the rocker's mouth however left Eve a tad stunned. She set down her drink and stood glaring at Rae then shot her gaze off to a distant spot in the room. Hands in tight fists she had half the mind to just storm out of there without a word. But then she thought that it was a reasonable question. Eve probably had asked herself such things in the past figuring Rae was bound to get sick of her.
"Of course I want to live with you. I fought with those jerks for nearly an hour to get to live with you. Either on or off campus." Gritting her teeth she chanced a glance at Rae basically shaking with sudden rage. "You're the most important thing in my life. Why in hell wouldn't I want to be with you?"

Rae noted the anger play across her lover's face, and it actually made her smile. Good, the dragon was getting angry. That meant that Rae's question had actually offended her, meaning that the dragon's feelings were real too. Rae sometimes hated that they continually played little games like this with one another, but they were both so volatile, so very different, that if they didn't do this... well, Rae would rather not think about it.
Instead, she leaned across the table, catching Eve's face and forcing a kiss. The rockstar's lips parted in a smile as she leaned back. "Love hearin' tha' from ye lips, lass. Ah jus' was a wee bit worried, ye ken? Tain't like we're Barbie an' bleedin' Ken."
No, more like Barbie and her best friend Theresa, assuming that both enjoyed fighting one another as much as they enjoyed loving upon one another. But being with Eve had just proven to Rae that she needed someone who would fight her if need be. Besides, she had to admit that the fighting sometimes spiced up the sex.
"Mebbe ah'll have tae crash in ye room then," drawled Rae. She'd returned to her seat and now leaned upon one arm, smiling. "wouldnae want ye tae sleep in a bed by y'self, an' really wouldnae want ye draggin' some other lass or laddie in there wit' ye."
Rae winked as she said this last, trying to let Eve know that she didn't really believe the dragon capable of such a thing. Rae herself was unerringly loyal when she'd finally committed herself, yet all knew that she was far more likely to stray than her current mate. dragons apparently mated for life. Not that Rae minded much at this point.
She sipped her shake, contemplating a more long term future involving Eve. It wasn't the first time.

Eyes going wide at the kiss she jerked back her eyes blazing with anger and embarrassment. She hated it when Rae pulled that in public and even more so when she was played like that to give the answer Rae already knew. With an eye roll at the werewolf’s comment she returned to her seat arms crossed over her chest glaring at the table. After what she’d just gone through in the administration building this was not what she needed. But what had she expected out of Rae? The rocker couldn’t be serious unless she was angry or getting laid. Well, if Rae liked it or not they would eventually have to have a serious conversation. One of which she was not going to like at all.
“You can stay for a few nights but you can’t stay overly wrong. Otherwise I’ll get in trouble.” She grumbled tapping the table with the toe of her shoe. Maybe some space between them like this would be a good thing. Keep them from fighting all the time, and give each other a break from each other. This would also give Eve some room so she could focus on her studies easier. When there was a party at your place nearly every night studying was not the easiest thing to achieve. Besides Rae would get bored and demand to play. “Like I’d drag someone else into my bed. You of all people should know how hard it was to get that far. “
Like she’d ever cheat on Rae even if she’d thought about just saying screw it all and having fun for once. But that only happened after her and Rae had one of their epic fights that tended to put holes in multiple walls. She gave up on the caffeine intake figuring she could just go back to their place and take a nap. The coffee wasn’t doing anything to keep her awake anyway. Lifting her gaze she frowned a bit not used to Rae staring off and thinking like that. Usually whatever popped into that girl’s head seemed to come right out of her mouth.
“Hey, kiss for your thoughts?” Eve slid her foot under the table and tapped Rae’s foot a small smile edging on her lips. Rae looked far too serious and most times serious tended to lead to bad things, and fights. She most definitely did not want to fight right now.

Eve reacted pretty well as Rae had expected she would. The dragon never would be comfortable with public displays of affection, which was exactly why Rae went out of her way to perform them as often as she possibly could. Besides, she bet that Eve got a secret little thrill out of them. The dragon seemed to like bending her society's rules a little bit. Either that or Rae was completely misjudging.
"Aye, had tae kick ye arse afore ye'd let me in," agreed Rae, smiling. that had been an interesting moment, and one that made Rae quite happy in retrospect. It hadn't been a happy, skippy moment at the time, mind. No, it had been an ugly, bloody confrontation. Neither girl was ever going to give ground to the other, which was part of the dance that seemed to make them work so beautifully together. Besides, it had made the actual reward all the sweeter; though it took a while for Eve to loosen up.
Rae sipped her drink as thoughts took over, not quite snapping even as Eve tapped her. By now Rae had learned to deal with little physical touches and signs as if they didn't matter. she did arch her brows and look at the mention of kissing, especially knowing Eve's feelings toward PDA.
The lycan leaned over and kissed, smiling again. "Was kennin' o' keepin' ye for a while," she said. She slid back into her seat, letting her feet play with her girlfriend's in an absent minded manner. "tha' an' was wonderin' wha' I'd have tae do ta make 'em change their minds. Maybe if we were married they wouldnae wine. Ye'd be the groom though; I'd look 'orrible in a tux."
Rae sipped, fully braced and expecting the inevitable explosion.

Returning Rae's grin about the comment of kicking her butt to get to that point in their relationship she felt all warm and fuzzy inside. This was much better than being mad at the rocker that was for sure. Settling in for a good long conversation with yummy coffee she sipped her drink happily. Now this was what she liked most in a relationship. Being able to sit and just be together without always having to do something or be making out.
Her drink was getting dangerously low but she'd already shelled out a pretty penny just to get these three. Maybe she could get Rae to flirt with the girl at the counter and get them free drinks. It wasn't often that she actually wanted Rae to flirt to get them things. Besides Rae was an uber rock star she should get free stuff thrown at her. She glanced up to ask Rae and found her girl friend spacing out. After she asked for a kiss and happily received it she smiled to herself thoroughly enjoying how the day was turning out.
She moved her feet to play with Rae's at first really liking the explanation as to why Rae was spacing. Then she choked on her drink which was an achievement seeing as it was a very smooth drink. Sitting upright she gaped at Rae in complete shock. "M-m-married? We've barely been together a year! And...and girls can't get married in the state of New York!" She actually had no clue if they could or not but that's what her story was and she was sticking to it. "Y-You've never even met my family, and I hardly doubt the school would want two married girls living in their dorms. They'd just let me live off campus. But that is not the point! the point is we barely know each other!"
Which was a lie seeing as they spent nearly a year touring together across the country in a not so big bus. They'd spent nearly every waking moment together. This meant lots of long conversations and bonding and such. "I-I...are you serious? Or are you just yanking my chain again?" Eve glared her nails actually digging into the table as she awaited the answer.
