Ok now, before you ask, yes, yes, and yes AGAIN, Locke is a normal human. His story starts before he was born, indeed shortly after he was conceived. His mother, not realizing she was pregnant yet, went on an expedition with her husband, to put down a creature that had been causing quite a stir in a rural community. His parents happened to be mercenaries, though they might better be called 'adventurers', never did like the sound of a 'merc. In any event, they did successfully eliminate the creature in question but not without the normal problems that follow every kind of fight. Locke's mother, Miranda, was affected by a transformation power of the creature. Since she has the gift of cellular regeneration, she was able to quickly heal herself of this after the battle. She seemed fine, and none could predict the effect this would have until the day of June twelfth, when her first son Locke was born.
His appearance was a cause of great distress for all involved, thinking it some kind of curse or revival of the beast killed. However, when all signs pointed that he was fully human, just with a genetic hiccup, his parents did what any parents would do.
They raised a son.
Due to his ears and tail Locke has often been ridiculed and berated by children his own age. And of course he knows he can never enter the non-magical world, at least not without some kind of a disguise. He discovered his gift at a young age, since he had no interest with other children of his age. One could not blame him for becoming the bookworm he did. He decided himself, that he would join the academy, after 13 years of living off the books and tomes his parents found in their younger, adventurous days. His father and mother both think the choice unwise, jumping into such a diverse and populated atmosphere with absolutely no people skills, but Locke is rather stubborn.
He usually dismisses most people moments after meeting them, unless they can give him a good reason to want to talk to them. He isn't unfriendly, but his awkwardness and past experiences make him very hard to talk to or even deal with at all. He is likely to insult and come off as very arrogant with only a minute of conversation. Though in his mind he has plenty to be arrogant about, his intelligence should not be underestimated.
