Just over two centuries ago, a powerful founding family of the Sicilian Mafia cut all mob connections and disappeared from the public eye. This family was the Bellamortès, and although they cut their ties with the well-known organization, they were not at all removed from the world of crime.
What happened was this; following the death of his wife, the oldest living male in the Bellamortè line, Antonio, married one of his household servants, a poor Greek woman whose name has been actively kept secret for reasons unknown. The woman was not especially beautiful or virtuous, yet anyone who met her grew to like her quickly. Some maintained that it was this bewitching quality that had led to Antonio making the seemingly ridiculous decision to marry someone of so little influence.
In reality, the woman was a Gifted One, with the power of Pheromone Production. When the children Antonio and the maid bore began developing unique abilities due to the Gifted blood they had inherited from their mother, Antonio saw an opportunity for something grander than any of the other mafioso could hope for in their wildest dreams.
The Bellamortè family, along with a select few families close to them, began operating their own crime syndicate, working above or around the Mafia. They quickly grew to become easily the most powerful crime family in mainland Europe, and still hold a monopoly over the criminal activity there. The Mafia is only remotely aware of their presence, but since the Bellamortès rarely interfere with Mafia business out of respect, the Mafia tend to not pry.
Traditionally, the family educates their children themselves, as they are distrustful of allowing those that would continue their family line to be molded by outside influences like the Academy, but recently an influential branch of the family pulled up its roots and moved to England so their children could be educated by the teachers there, though they had a desire to try and extend the family's operations to the United Kingdom as well.
This was the family headed by Dante and Demetria Bellamortè, and with them they brought their three children, their cousin, his sister, and his wife.
Though they originally refused to follow the Academy to America because it was a crude and uncivilized place, they eventually gave in, and now they hope to bring some class and dignity to the Midwest.
more to come, obv.
