OPEN:
Even if he couldn't figure out why they all stuck around with the Academy so much, it wasn't something he was eager to change. The fact was that he could live the rest of his life with just a high school diploma and a total net worth of somewhere around $20 billion; he could settle, he just didn't think he wanted to.
They were all graduated, and over the summer, talk about the future had been mentioned briefly and regularly, until one night, it actually occurred. Kellan didn't think she wanted to go back to school, Peyton didn't think she could, Tristan was almost twenty, Draco didn't like any kind of institution and Elliot had agreed and Andrew said he didn't need to; when he'd mentioned spending the fall in New Hampshire, New Jersey or Rhode Island, it hadn't exactly been a winning pitch.
Be serious, they said to him, and it was that he was being serious. He wanted something, he just wasn't sure what. It had little to do with his Father's aspirations for him, and more the fact that he didn't want to let himself be coined as some dumb rich kid. When it got to that his biggest issue in his day-to-day affairs was deciding which cereal to eat, he realized that his particular kind of made wasn't as fulfilling as Forbes or Time Magazine said it to be.
It was the middle of a Monday afternoon, the week before classes and Eiji sat on a bench that was directly facing the administration building, a look of deep contemplation on his face. He'd been there since after lunch, and the clock had continued to tick away without any interference from him. He didn't look like he was in any rush, even though the office would close within the hour. He didn't even look conflicted, simply quiet and thoughtful, like if he stared long enough at the administration, it would eventually tell him everything he wanted to hear; that it was okay to be different and break expectations, to do something his friends weren't doing and to do it alone.

Sooo... Dorian was going back to school. Kenneth hadn't really been paying attention to what his friend was studying, but he heard enough to know that Mr. Wilde was returning to the Academy. After the truck accident, Kenneth had a revelation. He never hated school; a lot of his best memories happened in this place. Meeting Jon and Dorian. Bullying Kellan into a date. Seducing Elliot on the lake. Embarrassing the hell out of people like Kennedy Cavan and Angela Wingrose with his wild and obnoxious rumours. Befriending Eiji and his cohorts of rich, good-looking, good-natured guys.
At graduation, he had to admit, he was going to miss the school. But now, when he thought about it, he could just stick around, and never have to miss it. Study something that would take him years to accomplish. His mother told him at a very early age that she would support him throughout his education, including college or university. He told her that he probably wouldn't go, and she told him that was fine; she'd just send Anna to Harvard.
But he called her up, and Rowena was delighted with his decision. Anna talked to him for an hour about how he was saving her from a snobby school, and Kenneth joked that his mom would send her there anyway. But the end result of that phone call was Rowena wiring money to his account in Seattle, which he promptly used to write a check to the Academy for his first year's tuition.
Which was why he was on the university grounds, walking on a path not far from Eiji's bench. When Ken got close enough to see who it was (his eyesight wasn't the best, so it took him a little longer to recognize the guy), that goofy grin lit up his face.
"Hey, loser!" He greeted, marching up to the good-looking fellow, "What's up?!"

If he had to admit it, at gun point or something, he would probably say that yeah, he did love his friends. Being friends with someone meant that he could be as candid as possible, and that was perhaps one of his favorite things about being familiar with another person. Hearing Kenneth's voice was like an automatic withdrawal of a smile from way inside the pensive parts of him. A purely Eiji look came over him; not too affable, not to insufferable, not unhappy, and not exactly ecstatic, just is, like the current moment promised to always be better than anything else that could come. If he had to say it, then yes, he really did love his friends.
"Oi homo," he said in lieu of a reply or an acknowledgment, and the easy expression he wore clearly indicated there was no heat in his words.
He managed a very small wave; lifting his hand maybe a foot above the bench surface, with no actual motion, just a solid 'hi' in the gesture. He looked easygoing but sounded a little apathetic, but that wasn't anything unusual, Eiji always was a little bit off between the hours of three and four in the afternoon. Anyway, Kenneth already knew not to think anything of it; not only were they friends and awesome drinking buddies, but they were each going out with the others very, very, very good friends.
"I'm trying to decide if I should enroll for Semester 1 or not," he answered, not hesitating or showing any indication of being shy or whatever, "I don't really want to go, here at least, but where else could I go?" Some place keeping him close to everyone; that part went unsaid because it wasn't necessary. The likelihood of him, or any of them really, leaving was rather slim, or so he thought anyway, and he wasn't too willing to test it either.

Kenneth made a face at the debauchery of a nickname Eiji came up with for him. Again with the gay jokes! If Eiji weren't seeing Elliot, Kenneth had some suspicions Eiji might come out of the closet and ask him out.
He arrived at the guy's bench and sat down next to him without invitation. When he admitted what he was doing here, Ken rolled his eyes.
"Just pay for it. It's not like you can't afford it. If you don't want to go to classes or whatever, then don't, but at least you'll know it's an option," Ah, the wisdom that is Kenneth. A huge grin split across his face, "Besides. I'm going here. I'm payed up for both Semesters. That should be reason enough for you to get off your ass and walk to registration. Or teleport, whatever floats your boat."
Sometimes it was hard to tell if Kenneth was just being funny, or cocky. Most of the time it was a little mix of both. Today was a good day, therefore he was in a good mood, which would explain why he was so full of himself. He also had plans to stop by and say hi to Jon, and demand a warm lunch before he got back home to help Harmony move in.
"So, that's that, huh?" He stood up again and brushed off his hands, as though his work there was done. "See you at the start of Semester!" He started to walk off, but there was no purpose to his step. He was just kidding. Of course that wasn't it. He wanted to hang out with Eiji more, and he was sure that, if a gun was really held up to Eiji's head, the other boy would admit he wanted to chill with Kenneth too. Guy love!

"Don't be such a dick," Eiji said, frowning a little, not because he thought Kenneth was being unfair but because he was a well known drama-queen and each of his problems never took less than five minutes to resolve. Kenneth obviously knew this, and the slight frown became a slight pout; he wanted to be heard out, damnit.
"It's not as easy as you make it sound." Or maybe he wasn't letting it be as easy as it could be, whatever, it didn't really matter. Kenneth made it sound so simple, and he only wished that it could be just like that in actuality; maybe his daddy and all the expectations placed on him had something to do with it after all.
Eiji pushed off the bench and jogged lightly after Kenneth, ignoring the funniness of moving so fast and too much after doing nothing for a long time. He refrained from a friendly punch in the arm, because while they both knew it was one of those hetero gestures of affection, Ken had a tendency to punch back harder, both intentionally and unintentionally.
"You're coming back, Ken? I thought we all swore never to come back to this place again." Eiji looked like he was concentrating; he remembered the week after graduation, and the whole lot of them meeting at his and Draco's to burn all their school things. Noah had went on a nude streak and they emptied about two cartons into Tristan before he vomited in the pool. Half their library had gone up in flames as well and his father had made him go on a mission to search for authentic replacements, expenses not paid.

Kenneth chuckled to himself at Eiji's pout. He wasn't sure who was more of an attention whore; him or Eiji. Eiji endeavoured for people's attention with complex, mind-stimulating problems, which in Kenneth's opinion, was not healthy. Kenneth preferred being loud and fun over somber and serious. But he figured he ought to entertain Eiji's worries, if only for the reason of sticking around.
"Oh right. The fate of the world depends on your tuition. I forgot about that detail," Kenneth nodded with mock gravity. But then Eiji reminded him about something he'd totally forgotten about. Oh yeahhh, he swallowed the impending laugh and shook his head, shrugging as indifferently as he could.
"You know, I can't remember much from that night," He lied, a hint of a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. His eyes slanted in Eiji's direction, a hint perhaps. Maybe Eiji had 'forgotten' that night too... Was that really all that made the boy hesitate from applying? If it was, Kenneth thought it was a sad excuse. Sure promises between friends meant something, but if you never took that promise seriously in the first place, and if it was interfering with your life plans... to hell with it. Kenneth logic should be a religion, he decided as an afterthought.
"Ah well, I'm sure you'll all forgive me," He couldn't see why anyone would care overmuch that he decided to come back to school. In fact, he knew some would encourage him, even if they had no similar plans of their own. Plus he figured Kellan would be still attending after she graduated, and that may or may not have contributed to his decision.

If Eiji was exasperated, he certainly didn't show it, merely rolling his eyes at Kenneth's remarks. When the smartass was on a roll, it was always better to just keep quiet; arguing with Ken was like arguing with a brick wall, which admittedly, he was. He glanced at the other boy, kind of curious and kind of hoping that he wasn't saying what Eiji thought he was saying.
"I don't care that you're going back," he told Ken, a laugh in the middle, "more power to you, man. I mean, I want to, just not here. But I have to, you know?"
Where else could he go? Princeton? Nah, that was on the other side of the country. In fact, most of the schools that he should be considering, under the strict recommendation of his entire family, was all in the north-eastern corner of the states, or overseas. He wasn't so pathetic that he couldn't survive without his friends or his girlfriend, he definitely could, it was more that he didn't want to. Actually, it was more than that even. They'd all been involved with The Academy, who were known to change location every so often. With the way they'd been living for the past few years, there wasn't really any guarantee in anything they were doing. He didn't want to move almost four thousand kilometers away without the promise that things would relatively stay the same. It was a futile hope, but he thought he was entitled to it all the same.
"I dunno, I'll sleep on it," he said, and then like it had anything to do with what they were talking about, he went on to ask; "so what does Harmony look like?" He wouldn't be doing anything about it, of course, but that didn't mean he didn't want to know.

Ken grinned, loving how the ideal picture he had in his mind came to fruition. Yay for peer support!
"You don't have to. Can't you just like... pop over to Harvard for a morning class, and then pop on back over here for lunch with friends? Aren't you a god?" He joked, referring the to infrequent nickname Eiji developed once upon a time. If he remembered correctly, which was never a guarantee, someone mentioned that Eiji's name sounded like it could fit in with Greek god names. There was Zeus, God of the Sky and Thunder. Ares, God of War. And Eiji, God of Time and Space.
He didn't see how Eiji could possibly have any problems in his life. He was rich, good-looking, smart, and all-powerful. Maybe he was drawn to drama just to add a little excitement to his life. When you had it made, it was probably boring to just sit around and admire everything you had. Ken would probably do the same thing, if he were in the same situation.
Eiji seemed eager to drop the subject, so Ken didn't push the conversation further in that direction. Then the most abrupt and random topic change occurred, and Kenneth was left silent for a moment to wrap his head around it.
"Harmony?" Why were they talking about her? His brows expressed his confusion and he offered a non-committal shrug. "She's a hot demon. I forget you guys don't know her. I should bring her around some time." He figured 'hot' was enough to cover her description. He didn't really want to get into details, because although he could be thick-headed sometimes, he knew how close Eiji and his girlfriend were. And no one understood better how easily rumours could spread than the gossip mill himself. Plus, he figured Eiji's curiosity stemmed from something, and he could only assume that something must have been something Kellan said.
He forgot to make a mental note to address this later.
"Did you hear my demo?" He asked, deciding to flip the conversation just like Eiji.

Almost expectedly, Eiji frowned; he'd never thought of it like that before. Wow, he never really did give Kenneth enough credit. His next birthday, Eiji was going to have to get him a super awesome present, for all the unwitting sense that Kenneth made in his life. Scratch that, he'd have to mention it right now.
"Ken, I'd say that was amazing if I didn't know you have a fat head," he began, a strange thank you, "but you make a very good point. I like it. Thanks bro." He'd probably brood over his decision for another few days still, and eventually postpone studying until the beginning of next term, but in the meantime, Kenneth was the surprising voice of reason. In fact, he probably should have gone to Ken in the first place; the guy was practical, if nothing else.
"Demon?" he repeated, a little thrown, a little impressed, "like, Supernatural demon, or..Demon demon?" It was hard to tell if he was just daft or if it was just one off. "Cool, I guess. Hey, you should hold poker at your place one night. I feel like pizza and beer, or just pizza." He was hungry, or crazy peckish, so he stopped himself before he could go on; thinking about food never helped him any.
"Yeah man. Kellan played it non stop when she was driving. It was terrible," he said, and then looked at Ken, a half smile playing on his lips, "her driving. She drives like an old lady. But your music was pretty good. It's like, I dunno. Script meets, not heartbreak."

Sometimes Ken suspected Eiji forgot how fucking amazing he was. Today it was confirmed. But he refrained from commenting because Eiji made a remark about his 'fat head' and he muttered a hurried "That's what she said," before he could slip in his thanks. There was a cheeky grin on his face, and once again the world was reminded that Kenneth Lorne would never grow up.
And concerning Harmony, the young man shrugged again. He wondered if he'd ever mentioned Harmony's species to anyone before. To him, she was just another one of his friends. Eiji's reaction however, made him think back and realize no, he'd never talked about it before. In any case, he had no idea what Eiji was referring to, not knowing the difference between a Supernatural demon and a Demon demon. "She's a demon of good luck. Like, a really awesome leprechaun or something." Eiji's suggestion had Kenneth perking up a big, and he nodded. Harmony would probably like poker. She was just like the rest of his guy friends; he was sure they would all get along. He'd just have to let her answer the door for the pizza guy.
"You're fat," Was his comment to Eiji's pizza craving, and that childish smile wrapped his lips up in the picture of immaturity. If Eiji was going to take his wonderful advice, he could handle a bit of tax on top. He made a mental note to add that line as lyrics to a new song. Adding tax to good advice...
But he snapped out of his musical daydream when Eiji brought up his opinion of his demo CD. It was terrible... Ken's nose wrinkled. Did he only listen to the first five seconds of it?! Why he oughta... oh. He pushed Eiji as punishment for making him think differently, and rolled his eyes.
"What a dork," Kenneth said about his girlfriend, but he was glowing with pride and grinning too much for the words to carry any vindication. He really liked knowing that Kellan played his music on her own time, and for one of her best friends to hear too. If Eiji thought Ken had a fat head before, he'd have to insist he go on a diet soon. Kenneth's neck could hardly support his ego.

Eiji rolled his shoulders and fixed his shirt, scowling a little at Kenneth's push; stupid, super-strengthened bastard. He brushed invisible dust off of himself and tried not to think about food. He really was hungry, no matter how hungry he regularly was.
"Dude, I meant like yellow-eyed demon? You know? Supernatural? Geez, you're such a ditz sometimes," he shook his head and finally stopped his fussing, looking at his friend, expression polite, "she sounds cool Ken."
There was a pause and Eiji took in the look on Kenneth's face, rolling his eyes almost immediately. He wished he had a camera or something, or someone else to make fun of Ken with; the guy could be a total sap, honestly. "So, what're you going to do, man?" he asked, genuinely interested, gesturing a little, not emphatically but clearly expressing his curiosity concerning Kenneth's demo.
"I'm not too into the music scene but I know the guys know some people. You want a record deal or something?"

Kenneth scratched his head, puzzled over Eiji's words. Supernatural... wasn't that a... "Oh man! Don't you think that one guy in that show looks like Kennedy?" He was getting off-topic, whether it was intentional or not was a mystery.
When Eiji inquired about his music, Kenneth shrugged, the picture of indifference. However, if anyone knew Kenneth well enough, they would see the apprehension in his brow-line. "I sent it out to a bunch of companies. No one's called back, but it's only been a week. They probably get tonnes of demos in every day, so I'm trying to be patient..." the sideways glance he shot Eiji said enough about how patient Ken was. Kenneth was a go-go-go kinda guy, and sitting back and waiting around for something he wanted was difficult for him. He was already doing that for Kellan, did he have to wait for his career to be ready for him too?
Then Eiji proposed he do something to help. At first Kenneth was skeptical, but then he remembered, oh yeah, Eiji was god and could do anything. That signature grin lit up his face and all traces of anxiety and discomfort vanished from his green eyes.
"Yeah, if you want to look into that for me. Tell you what; you get me signed with some big label, and I'll write a hit single about my gay love for you!" He slung an arm around Eiji's shoulders and broke into song. Something about Eiji just made him want to pull something like High School Musical.
"Mister Almasy what a classy guy, He's so sassy he's my kinda guy! I want him so bad, ain't no lie, You want him too? Well get in line!"
However, before he could really get into the song, his boisterous laughter bubbled to the surface, interrupting the soon-to-be famous gay love song. ♥

At Kenneth's brief mention of Kennedy, Eiji only had one response, which was the same one he'd been toting for the last year and three months, give or take a few.
"Eww," he said, face appropriately screwed up to convey his distaste; Sam was annoying as is, and for Kenneth to think he looked like Kennedy was kind of, like, disgusting. "Thanks for ruining Sam's face, Kenneth," he bitched/grumbled and then proceeded to bury the comment far behind him.
He laughed; Kenneth was a comic, and genuinely a good guy, and Eiji decided then and there that Ken's birthday was going to be awesome. He kind of wished he had a better way of expressing whatever guyffection he felt for his friends, rather than always buying them things or being to outlandish in throwing them parties the greater the gratitude he felt. Kenneth himself would probably be first in line to rib him to no end if he did anything that was out of character.
"Ken, if you write and record me that song, I promise you a platinum by next year," he replied, still smiling big but there was a note of seriousness in there as well. He, personally, wasn't incredibly tight with any big music producers, but he would bet that someone like Draco (honestly) was.
"If you haven't heard anything by October, let me know," he said, "It's only 3 weeks, but I don't know, do you want to wait? It wont feel too much like cheating that way, you know?"

Kenneth laughed at Eiji's obvious distaste for the character; he wasn't a huge fan of Sam either. "His face was ruined wayy before I said anything," He laughed again, though it was in good nature. He held no animosity toward Kennedy himself; the guy was dating a supermodel! He was right to dump the school slut for Angela Wingrose; sure, it sucked for Tristan, but it couldn't be too hard for that guy to get back on the market. Things like that happened all the time... Of course Kenneth would know everything about everything. It was in his nature to gossip.
When they spoke about Ken's impending platinum, he chuckled, eyes aglow with genuine pleasure at the idea. "Songs about gay love man, they're gonna dominate the charts next year. I'll be right up there with 'I Kissed A Girl'." But he liked that Eiji sounded semi-serious. Ken was serious about getting a job in the music biz, and he'd take all the help he could get. He didn't doubt for a second that his friends in high places had other friends in high places that could help him stick his foot in the door.
"I'll wait it out," Ken told him with a grimace that showed he was hoping he wouldn't have to, "but I'm not opposed to cheating at all. I doubt Akon got into the music scene with his skills alone," the part-djinn snorted and shook his head, "once you get on the charts, and in the headlines, you're golden. Doesn't matter how you get there; no one cares. At first it's just like, how many people like you, you know?" Ken tried to explain, "Then it's about your music, which is what everyone wants. I want to be worth the twelve-fifty people throw down at HMV. I want twenty-million downloads online. Exposure, good press, bad press, it all leads to one thing."
Success; he didn't feel like he had to say it. Eiji had to know as much; he'd been popular throughout school, no matter how vicious the rumours were about him. People still wanted to be around him, some for those reasons alone. In the end it didn't matter what was said and done, because it put you where you wanted to be. Right?
Ken stretched his big arms over his head and rolled his neck, looking ready for a boxing match or something.

"You gotta start telling me more about your music, man," Eiji said, after being quiet the entire time Kenneth had been talking, shaking his head almost ruefully; the more Kenneth spoke, the more there was for Eiji to think about and he found that he was getting into it.
"Like, you know, what kind of associating acts do you want? I could get you to meet Pete Wentz easy. That guy goes out everywhere all the time. Or do you want to tour with Kings of Leon? We should have like, an exec. meeting or something. You can't really tell always, but we're shrewd bitches at heart; we'll have you owning the charts by next fall."
They would never discuss this in depth, but Eiji really appreciated the way Kenneth was approaching his future. Kellan was easily his second favorite person on the planet, and it appeased him a lot to know that Ken wanted to go further than anything Seattle, The Academy or the various other places in their travel had offered them.
Remembering the grimace on Ken's face, he went on to offer the other boy reassurance as well as a compromise. "I'll talk to Draco, he knows more about this stuff than I do, but if you ever want to be in a movie or something, let me know, bro, I'll hook you up," he grinned at this, but then added, in case Ken thought he was joking; "seriously. Although seriously, my granddad and Doug Morris are old friends. He's the Chairman and CEO of Universal. We could start a bidding war for you!"
