He couldn't say that he was just humoring her. He had always been a bit nicer than most of his friends, save for the obvious few, so when he started lightly applauding her throwing efforts, he found that he meant it.
"Not really," he responded, either getting into the flow of things or being freakishly out of current character, going by his mild grin; "I believe my phone is an extension of my soul." To prove his point, he pulled out his cell phone, a Blackstone he'd traded his old (still new) cell for.
"I'll call even if the other person is in the next room," he said, looking unabashed. His best friend had once said a picture of his face could be found next to ridiculous in the dictionary, and he had never denied that she was right. Eiji was lazy; unconventional and ostentatious, awfully used to telecommunication in all its forms and a fan of trading up cells like he did cars. Miki was probably his complete opposite, like most conventional and practical people were.
"So, Miki?" he asked, or made it out questioningly; her mother had stated her name pretty clearly and even before that, he was piecing together who she was. "I'm Eiji. You should go change," he suggested, gesturing back to the school, "I'll just send someone down here later to find the gold."

PAINTED FACES FILL THE PLACES I CAN'T REACH YOU KNOW THAT I COULD USE SOMEBODY,SOMEONE LIKE YOU.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Eiji's applauding only made her more confident as she had swung her fist around triumphantly. “Really?” she asked, raising a brow. Miki thought it amusing that someone could call someone who was in an adjacent room. She could help but smile as she took his words in. “I suppose.” she replied thoughtfully. 'He's so...intriguing? Interesting? I can't find a word, but I just know that I want to know more about him!' Miki thought.
The wind was starting to pick up a little, and it swung her hair around majestically. Unfortunately, it also reminded her that she was wet and she shivered a little. She frowned inwardly. Miki didn't want to go so soon, but she knew if she didn't, she'd regret it. “Yeah...” she said as she sighed and looked off towards the school. 'He remembers my name!' she thought excitedly, leaping about in her head. 'But wait...hearing my mother screeching my name would imbed itself into anyone's brain, wouldn't it? Aw..'
“Eiji?” Miki repeated. She liked how it sounded. And she loved how unique it was. “What a wonderful name. It really does paint a picture for you,” Miki smiled warmly, her chocolate brown eyes seemed softer. “If you're sure...” she inquired. “If you, uhm, never need help, you know...finding it, just let me know. I'm usually around the Academy somewhere.” 'Could I be any cornier?'
She stretched, and then let out a tiny yawn like a kitten's. Then, offering him a grin and a wave, she ran off, running as fast as she could. Miki loved to feel the wind against her face, and the axhileration running past the world.
“I hope to see him again...” she whispered to herself as the academny formed in front of her. Its big doors were ready to swallow her whole.
