[red]How could he make her so flustered? Calm, collected, rational knight, turned into a little fool by this bumbling buffoon.
"One day Nightwind, your laid back attitude won't be enough to save you from an enemy." She said, returning the whip to her hand and recoiling it.
"Honestly, Minerva might turn into the next Lilith if she didn't have you around to keep the stress from driving her mad. I know your laid back attitude is what she sees in you, but perhaps you should be more careful with your words or your ways? You wouldn't want to leave her behind, if you mean half the words you throw around so carelessly."
She made sure to punctuate the words with a bit of venom.
What felt like a long time ago, Calcus had sought her heart. How odd that when she was ready to give it he found another. One more deserving, because she could accept him for who he was, but still, it stung.
An eternity of servitude was what she had prepared herself for, but it wasn't what she wanted.
"Just try to be more careful Calcus, she deserves better then having to wonder if you mean what you say to her or not. And she most assuredly deserves better then the fate as a widow, so watch yourself now 'Your Majesty'."
Well, that had certainly killed the conversation.[/red]

"Words are fleeting things, fragile. They die the moment they life, flashing in pan," Cal sprang his hands apart, mimicking an explosion. "I can merely offer the right ones at the wrong time, or vice versa. something like that."
Cal shrugged, "I love her, oddly enough. It developed over time, despite our strange semi-union. Tis a rather difficult circumstance, particularly when such attractive personages as yourself keep popping up."
Cal sighed, shaking his head, "Alas fair maid, I doubt we could act upon our mutual lust," he looked up at Riana, smiling ruefully and bouncing his eyebrows, "'sides, Minerva would kill us both. She's kinda possessed like that. Or possessive."
He began walking away now, seeing the conversation as having run its full course. Of course, he couldn't help but wonder about paths that might have been. Or thoughts that now chased one another about within minds. Perhaps there existed an alternate future where Cal's and Riana's paths had intertwined, and neither had gone near Minerva.
who knows? Not Cal.
"I won't die anytime soon," he promised, raising a hand an waving it, "I've lived through too much to give up now. 'sides, it's more fun to stay alive an' keep causing you people troubles."
A few other words were said under Cal's breath, and soon it began to snow again, though much harder than Cal had intended it, the heavy flakes feeling oppressive. Probably laden with ice.
An omen?
Well, good thing Cal didn't believe in those.

[red]Riana watched Cal say his peace and go, and the snow began to fall.
Heavy snow. And Riana, not being blessed by the element of ice, felt the chill in her frail fae body. Not like she was dressed for snowy weather either. Minerva's wrath would be something akin to Lilith herself if Riana ever did anything to Cal, and she knew it. No, this was like playing with fire, something about how dangerous it was made it tempting, but it ultimately would just get everyone involved hurt. And what kind of soldier would she be then? To turn the recovering fae kingdom on it's head again? They'd never be taken seriously again if they suffered more distension in their ranks.
No, she had to stay true to the path she had laid for herself, to serve the queen and the matriarchy. That was most important. She had prepared her heart for this life centuries ago.
Riana wondered as she watched the snow fall if it reflected her own heart; cold, barren and lonely.[/red]
