OoC: Kara should also post here.
Masonville? Seriously? The impressive, hidden Academy of superheros was located near a Podunk little town in the middle of nowhere? Well, it did make some sense. You certainly didn't want people to be able to find your top secret Academy. But one would think that the administrators could have found a better place to place their Academy.
Stephens, frankly, didn't care. He was here simply to investigate, and to take someone back to replace the one they would be "giving up." One meaty fist lay on Kara's shoulder, squeezing the frail girl. Stephens' brow rose, and his eyes flicked forward.
"I-I-I th-th-think he w-w-wants to know if this is r-r-r-right," offered a weedy man. An academic, sent along with Stephens to make certain that the larger man didn't screw up. The institute hardly cared if children died, but they certainly didn't want to lose any precious genetic material. The poor man, Dr. Niplik, shivered and shook, obviously petrified of Stephens and petrified of Kara. Probably would be petrified of a squirrel, should one arrive.
"Is there a code?" asked Stephens, his tone hard. His eyes remained on Kara, boring holes into her. "Let's make this quick" - they seemed to say.

Kara was merely reorganizing her plan when Stephans spoke. Then it all shifted a bit to make way for a brilliant step one. Ignoring the jittery scientist, Kara responded to the stronger of the men and raised an eyebrow.
"No code. We're harder to crack than that," with a roll of her eyes, she proceeded first. "You need someone with the right gene to open the door. Go ahead and fire a bazooka at it, nothing will happen."
That should wet the scientists' wildest dreams. Impenetrable gateways. Let him stew about that for a while. Kara put her hand on the wood and turned to Stephens.
"I'll see you later," she 'promised', and with that, she vanished.
In all actuality, Kara was sitting at the door entrance between the two men. But her nearly flawless camouflage coupled with the projected feeling of disbelief, shock and wonderment should fool them. They'd learn quickly enough that the doors would open the way any door did, and they'd either enter or retreat. The tricky teenager slowly allowed their astonishment to fade to whatever it was they were really feeling, so they wouldn't suspect she was still around. Instead she kept defensive, letting her gift lick and probe at their emotions so if even a hint of suspicion crossed their minds, she'd be able to react quicker than they were able to form a sensible plan.
Hugging her knees tightly to her chest, Kara waited, making absolutely no noise.

So the girl could vanish too? No matter, they already had everything they needed on her. The orders had been to dispose of her, and even then, it wasn't a priority. No, priority was to find others like her, and to apprehend them. More guinea pigs.
Niplik looked terrified, eyes darting around to try and find Kara. The projected emotions worked particularly well on him, and he took a few shaky steps back. This was quickly becoming less and less of an appealing project, super-powers or not.
Stephens, per usual, didn't care, and didn't react. He simply approached the entrance, studying it. Kara might not recall precisely, but you did need to enter a code or swipe something through. The Academy wasn't quite that unsecure.
Unfortunately, the doors did open when a group of teenagers wandered out. One boy, who happened to be holding a soccer ball, paused mid-step, nudged his partner, and stared at Stephens.
"Who the hell are you?" he demanded.
Stephens just smiled.
"W-w-w-w-we're inspectors," offered Niplik, smiling weakly.
The boy arched an eyebrow doubtfully, eying Stephens.

Kara, the heroine she was, got up and crawled into the Academy when the doors opened. Screw those kids, they could get captured and prodded with needles all day long and Kara wouldn't lose a minute's sleep over them. Invisibility wavering with every step she took, Kara ditched it altogether when she got inside and started running. But, feeling slightly guilty, Kara sent a shock of unnatural fear into the boys so maybe they'd smarten up and leave as quickly as possible.
Kara took the most complicated escape route, using her vast knowledge of the Academy to her advantage. Tripping and stumbling many times as she curled around the corners, the fragile-looking girl pushed passed the occassional bemused bystander. She found her way to the Almasy dormitories and slammed the door shut, locking it. Fuck everyone else. She was going to stay away from those lunatic scientists and save herself. She ran to her own room and locked that too.
"Eiji, why can't you fucking be Alice?"

Garion quietly sat on the sidelines, witnessing the girl appear out of nowhere and walk off, extremely disturbed. After her was a large, bulky man, and his polar opposite. They didn't seem to be chasing her, but the profound fear in the girl's eyes stopped him from approaching the two men.
Instead, he instinctiveley shrank back in the shadows, whatever he was doing forgotten, overtaken by his curiosity and wariness.

Children bothered Stephens, and teenagers even more so. People shouldn't have to suffer through childhood. They should just crawl out of the womb as adults.
Needless to say, the bruiser didn't respond well to the students. In fact, his hand hovered near his side, dangerously near to where he happened to have a weapon stored. Only a telepath could pick that up, and even he/she would be struggling through the blockade of Stephens' mind.
Niplik, on the other hand...
"Y-y-y-you s-s-s-s-should let us in," he insisted, nodding. "Puh-puh-please."
He waved at the door.
The lead student looked to the door, then to the two men. They certainly didn't look like they belonged...
"C'mon, let's just go," insisted one of the others, waving a hand, "who cares what they're doing?"
"Yeah, I guess..." murmured the leader. He stepped to the side, waiting.

They were letting them IN? Garion had a bad feeling about this. These two definatley did not look like inspectors. He stepped out of the shadows to block thier way.
"Hey, um, excuse me, but who are you? It's just that I do't think you're in the right building. Masonville University is down the street,, then to your right. Go straight until you hit Main st. and then turn on that till you get to the university. Okay, bye now." Garion started to shut the large double doors.

Leo had a bad habit of doing things he probably shouldn't.
So when a young girl flew into the dorms like she was being chased by an axe murderer, he decided the best thing to do was to follow her. He ran after her, and squeezed into her room behind her before the door slammed shut, but only barely. And before she could turn around he half sat, half laid down on her bed to greet her when she turned around.
"Heya. Rough day? I don't know any Eiji's or Alice's, but I suppose I can entertain you in their stead?" He winked at the girl.

Locke just so happened to be going for the main doors, when he spied Garion trying to play bouncer. Oh this was going to be interesting. He was trying to tell two men, one of them exceptionally large, to leave the area. The little kid may have been smart, but to try something like that was exceptionally foolish. But instead of revealing himself with a desire to get involved, he stayed back, looking like he was reading his book. He was very much in view, but it did not appear that he was observing the scene, as he had his nose buried in his book.
His ears though, were listening to the exchange quite intently.

Great, now there was an even smaller, more annoying child present. Stephens looked down on Garion, raising his brows, clearly wondering why someone so small and insignificant would bother to stand in his way.
Niplik looked even more worried, sweating heavily. He pulled at his jacket, rubbed his hands together, and smiled at Garion. "W-w-w-we're supposed t-t-t-to be here."
He nodded again.
Stephens took a step forward.
"It w-w-w-w-would probably b-b-b-be best if you moved," whispered Niplik, motioning toward Stephens and shrinking back.
Stephens took another step forward.

Garion matched every step of the large man with two steps backwards. He was getting more and more panicked by the minute. One thing he knew for certain was that these people did not belong here. And threatening a student by stepping towards him was not the best way of telling him you're friendly.
Garion again tried to stand his ground, but where there were plenty of student witnesses. In a louder than normal voice; not quite a shout, but almost, he said
"I really think you should leave."

Stephens looked over his shoulder to the shuddering Niplik.
Niplik looked up at the imposing Stephens.
Truly, they should be able to do better than this. After all, they were the two best men sent in for this little expedition. Which probably said more about the Corporation than it needed to. Still, they should be able to at least get inside the building. But it looked like they were about to be stopped by a squad of well-meaning children.
"W-w-w-we are in the right p-p-p-places, aren't w-w-w-we?" stuttered Niplik, rubbing his hands together. His eyes scanned the building, then he looked to Garion, smiling nervously. "My associate is j-j-just... well, he's not good with kids."
The stutter was leaving Niplik as he managed to lie more convincingly. "He doesn't mean to be scary. Now, little boy, perhaps you could escort us through the building? After all," Niplik smiled, "you're clearly a smart boy, and you seem to know your way around. You see, I'm a specialized inspector, top secret stuff. So you probably never heard of me. Now..."
He spread his arms, "Would you like to lead us in."
Stephens' hands lowered, but he was ready to draw if need be. There were enough kids out here, and now they knew the main location...

Gariion eyed them suspiciously. A rising panic was growing in his chest, but Garion attempted to put it out.
He failed miserably.
The large man still looked about ready (and able) to tear off a chunk of the floor and hurl it at something. But the way that the scientist looked at the man... and his stutter went away, which couldn't mean he was lying... right?
Garion wasn't sure whether to move out of the way or block it more intensly. And then, for a rare moment, he realised something earth shattering.
He's nine years onld. And these are grown men. With skull crushing hands and muscles the size of his head.
Force was obviouly out of the question. But words weren't... and something about the way the ex-stutterer referred to Garion made him wish he had something sharp and easy to throw; after all, smart little boys didn't like to be patronized.
Garion's voice wasn't as loud or suspicious the next time he spoke, but had a definite edge to it.
"Sorry for being such a terrible bother. I just wanted to know if I could see a badge or I.D card. I would get in so much trouble if I don't ask. School policy and all that."

"Of course," agreed Niplik, smiling. His hands went to his pockets as though he fully anticipated to pull out a card of some sort. Indeed, he did produce an ID, though not one that was acceptable for the Academy. Nodding, he flashed it in Garion's direction, hoping that it worked. Something about the boy unnerved him, and Niplik could feel the nervous shakes returning.
Stephens just watched, still not amused, still not showing much emotion at all.
"T-t-there, b-b-b-b-adge," said Niplik, nodding. "Now, lead us, boy. And w-w-w-w-we'll make s-s-s-s-sure you're rewarded."
Yes, promise treaties to the small child.
The other students had more or less given up, and most of them drifted away. Only one or two stayed, watching the exchange curiously. Like Garion and Locke, they suspected more was at play here than the surface showed.

Garion closely inspected the badge and the two people.
"Thank you! That cleared up so much! I only have two teensy weensy little questions. After all, I don't get to see such clever adults doing such a cool job all the time! Is that okay?"
Garion didn't wait for an answer.
"The first question is why do secret super dooper inspectors like you not have a map or the general directions to a main office of some sort, and rely on a nine year old boy you promise a handful of candy to to lead you around?"
"And my second question is why does your official I.D and badge say "Platnum Member of Al's Wholesale Chemestry and Glasses Depot"?"
