Kiri bit her lip and shot her eyes to the side. She never really liked talking about her love life. Diffinitely not the kiss and tell type. Scooping up her own chip she dipped it then lowered her hand for Lucky to lick off the dip. She stayed like that for awhile listening to Kennedy only half heartedly.
"He was so not blushing." Saying this she blushed now thinking that the boy would soon ask her out. At least he was a nice looking boy. Surprisingly Kiri happened to be almost shallow in the boys she went out with. If she didn't think they were cute she didn't date them. She'd go out with them as a friend but she'd make it apparent they weren't on a date. It was something she didn't wish to talk about to one of her oldest friends who probably had this angelic image of her set in his mind. That's the Kiri she wanted all her friends to see. Not the one who was shallow and only dated pretty boys.
"I think we got a new server." She mumbled as a female came over to take Kennedy's order. The girl smiled but from the protruding stomach and ring on her finger she was obviously not interested in the attractive boy. Though Kiri spotted a least three waitresses gawking at him, and more than one patron oogling him.

Kennedy could tell he was pushing the conversation into uncomfortable territory for his young Fae friend, and elected to detour things. Part of him still wanted to know the details of Kiri's love life, which struck him as utterly fascinating. He wished he paid more attention to rumors and whatnot.
He quickly ordered, thankful that he'd gotten served by someone who wasn't interested in gawking. Yes, Kennedy was used to some staring, he'd come to terms with the fact that most girls found him attractive. But he now more or less ignored them in general. For that matter, even when he'd been single, he hadn't been a big flirt.
"These meat puffs had better be good," Kennedy warned. He stuck a finger at his friend. "I'd hate to think I'm eating poor, pathetic, puffs."
He nodded, smiling at his little bout of alliteration. "So, how's things been going lately? We haven't really talked since that last study session, and that was a while ago."
Before at least one major new addition in Kennedy's life, that was for sure.

Glad to be off the subject of her love life she settled her elbows on the table her head in her hands. As the waitress left she noticed a girl glaring at her. Finding this odd she frowned slightly then a light went on, and she started giggling uncontrollably.
"Oh," giggles, "my goodness, " even more giggles, "we look," she pointed at each other back and forth still laughing, "like a couple." Kiri found this hilarious though Kennedy was attractive she just didn't think of him that way. Besides he had Angela. After finally stopping in her laughter she leaned back in her chair just as their drinks arrived.
"The puffs are amazing, and you're going to eat all of them." She said smiling happy to be having fun. Sipping on her tea she wiggled her feet as a baby squirrel-monkey played with them under the table.
"I've been fine. Volunteering at the animal shelter, helping out at the St. Louis zoo during breaks. How bout you?" The fae emitted school seeing as she was still horrible at it. She often found Locke to help her with her studies though she still never got above a B in a class. Unless it was an animal class then she aced it easily.

"Wait, what?" Kennedy blinked a few times, turning about in his seat. Yes, people were staring. And some of them appeared to be glaring at either Kennedy or Kiri, or both. It looked like Kiri just might be right.
Kennedy had to laugh too. He would get that impression now, when he wasn't single and would find it awkward and embarrassing. Fate clearly enjoyed toying with Kennedy.
"Shame I've got Angela then," Kennedy offered. Sighing, he propped his head on the table, using a bent elbow for support. "Otherwise we could actually count this as a date. I'm sure you're crushed."
That was probably more than enough teasing for now. Kennedy rearranged himself, and glanced over at another table, this time looking at the food. It all looked quite good, though he couldn't see meat puffs anywhere.
"What is a meat puff anyway?" he wondered aloud. He shook his head, focusing back in on the conversation.
"I'm usually busy, what with the tutoring and my girlfriend and all. Not to mention patrolling the halls and whatnot," Kennedy rolled his eyes. Being a tutor was great, but every job had its pitfalls. "But I'm pretty much doing fine."
Lucky returned to the table again, nudging Kiri for more food. She'd already been introduced to the other interesting dogs, and now was determined to stuff her little belly with as much people food as possible.

Kiri rolled her eyes at Kennedy and stuck her tongue out at him. Then she looked around found the cutest boy and finger waved at him. The boy blinked and waved back the girl he was with however just glared at Kiri. Kiri smiled and turned back to Kennedy.
"Right, you're just jealous." She followed his gaze to other tables and her stomach growled loudly. Everything here was just so very tasty.
"Meat puffs are seasoned meat that you can dip into cheese, a spicy sauce, or a sweet sauce. Its rolled in a puff pastry and deep fat fried. It's one of their more unhealthy dishes." Kiri sipped her tea then noticed Lucky and scooped up another chip for the pup to lick at. Lucky was soon tackled by the baby squirrel-monkey and she was dashing around the cafe trying to get her chip back yipping playfully.
"Ah, the life of a tutor. So you and Angel-lady gonna get engaged?" Kiri smiled mischievously hoping the subject change would throw him off some. That's what he got for picking at her love life.

While Kiri flirted, the waitress returned with their drinks, setting them before both Kiri and Kennedy. She then smiled at them, nodding before she left. Clearly she knew better than to interrupt the conversation, and the two didn't need anything anyway.
Kennedy put a straw into his drink, that nice strawberry lemonade the male server had mentioned before running off. He nodded along with her description of meat puffs, noting that they were definitely a food he could consume with relish.
He took a deep drink of lemonade, enjoying it, pondering whether or not it was made with all natural ingredients.
"engaged?"
The lemonade went everywhere as Kennedy began choking loudly. At least a few chips got soaked, and the reddish yellow liquid splattered over quite a few napkins. Kennedy had to start beating his chest with his fist, leaning over the table to try and catch his breath.
"Engaged?" he managed to wheeze. He levered himself up, giving Kiri a "deer in headlights" look. His mind whirled, and he honestly couldn't think up a good answer.

(ooc. the drinks had already showed up...in one of my posts but alrighty then ^.^)
Kiri watched him after flirting and nodded smiling about the meat puffs. Their unhealthiness was another reason she didn't eat them. Though being a fae healthy or unhealthy food didn't really matter but she just felt better eating healthy food. Every once in a while though she craved highly unhealthy food and often gorged herself on fried cheese puffs, fried mushrooms, and ice cream. Today however she wanted healthy.
His reaction to engaged was more than she could've hoped for. Literally jumping out of her chair to dodge the spray she doubled over in laughter not caring that people were staring openly. She pointed and laughed her tinker bell like laugh until tears streamed down her baby doll cheeks.
"That was hilarious!" Kiri finally sat back down whiping her part of the table off with her napkin. She smiled crossing her dainty feet under the table using one of the non-lemonade seasoned chips to munch on.

OoC: gah, sorry amby, must have missed that. it works out alright though, right?
It took a few more coughs for Kennedy to fully regain control of himself. Even then, he more or less just stared into space, trying to work out an answer. Really, when it came down to it, the main objective he had to getting engaged was the time. He already had a steady job, the Academy would provide housing, and his family would just be happy he wasn't marrying a vampire. Sure, Eoin would tease, and doubtless Kennedy's older brothers would get in on it. But really, there weren't any physical objections to Kennedy's and Angela's engagement.
There was also the whole Tristan thing to consider.
"Glad you enjoyed yourself," muttered Kennedy. He used a napkin to dab at the spilled lemonade, more or less cleaning it up. "Making me feel all uncomfortable like that. You ought to be ashamed."
Kennedy gave Kiri a mock-frown, and continued mopping up. The waitress soon reappeared, motioning someone with a bucket and mop forward. Kennedy sat, embarrassment creeping up on him, while they cleaned up the mess he'd made.
"How about we call a truce and change the subject?" he suggested.

(ooc. it fine )
Smiling she waited until the people were done cleaning up before answering Kennedy. Over only a year she had developed into a less angelic person. Maybe it was because she was more interested in boys now. Maybe it was that she was getting less angelic friends. She didn't think she'd ever be not perky miss sunshine, but she knew she was changing. Hopefully it wasn't bad changing. As she took her seat their food came his puffs steamed on a platter with the different sauces Kiri had explained. One good thing about the place, you got the food you paid for. The salad and the puffs were on huge platters, Kennedy's came with a side of fresh cut fries.
"Oops, I forgot to order a half order. Left overs are good though." She giggled digging in to her salad giving Kennedy an evil grin. She'd known very well how big the servings were and wanted to see his reaction to the large amount of food.
"Okay, truce." What to talk about now was a bit of an issue. "How's the family?" Lame try but at least it was something away from their love lives.

The massive amount of food pleased the semi-greedy tutor. After all, he'd suddenly found himself ravenously hungry, and those meat puffs looked appetizing.
He popped one into his mouth, enjoying the feel of hot grease as it popped against his tongue. The greasy, meaty flavor overwhelmed Kennedy, and he grinned broadly as he chewed. As he swallowed the bite, he took a swig of lemonade.
Bending over, Kennedy offered the rest of his first puff to Lucky, who eagerly ate the delicious treat, her tongue flopping about as the grease popped in her mouth.
Kennedy laughed, then faced Kiri again, pausing with a second puff in his hand. "My mom and dad are about the same. In that my mother is constantly annoyed and my father just doesn't care. My oldest brother's doing fine, as is his wife. Uh, I think my youngest older brother is expecting a kid sometime soon. And Morgan's doing just fine, though I suspect her relationship with Jon is all kinds of awkward."
Kennedy popped the bite into his mouth, chewing thoughtfully. He followed it up with a fry, then had to ask Kiri a question that had been on his mind. "Do you think I should ask Angela to marry me? You mentioned the engaged thing and, I..."
What could you add to that, really?

Popping a grape into her mouth she beamed glad that Kennedy was enjoying himself. She was also glad that Lucky was enjoying her fluffly butt little self. The girl ate in silence for awhile watching the various animals and relishing the tasty salad. After his hesitant question she grinned sheepishly.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to make you all confused and stuff. I just wanted to make you stop nosing." Kiri crossed her legs dropping a piece of mandrian orange on the squirrel-monkey who just never seemed to leave her alone. She frowned and glanced around wondering who the little guy belonged to. Not finding anyone staring at her or looking for him she smiled at Kennedy.
"I think you two make a lovely couple, but asking for her hand in marriage might be too soon for her. Wasn't she like with with someone before you two started dating?" Worried that she was hedging on a unhappy subject she bit her lip. Now she wished she'd never said the stupid tease.
"Marriage will be there, when she starts hinting about long, long term stuff maybe you should start thinking of rings and things. But for now I dunno...I don't talk to Angela." Not that she didn't want to she just never seemed to be in the same place as the light hearted girl. Two different circles she guessed. Her and her big mouth just had to complicate things for the poor guy.

Of course she'd wanted him to stop nosing. That had been the point of the playful banter, after all. Now they had reached a stopping point, and had entered the realm of the serious. Though Kennedy had to admit that it felt odd discussing anything resembling a serious matter with Kiri of all people. She'd certainly matured over the last year. Probably had her friends to thank for that.
"Yeah, she was with someone," Kennedy admitted. He started playing a fry, thinking about Angela and Tristan. It was hard, knowing that she still cared for him and that Kennedy had played a major part in wrecking what Angela and Tristan had had. Of course, he'd tried to make up for it by nudging Angela toward Tristan, but Kennedy still wondered just how much blame he should be bearing for those actions.
"I'll keep what you said in mind," he stated, nodding. He bit into the french fry, chewing it up before answering. "Long term stuff, huh? Better watch out for it then."
Kennedy picked up a meat puff, and popped it into his mouth. This time, he spoke around the food, "So, what's this I've heard about you and Locke? Hmm?"

He wasn't taking this too badly though the fry playing was bothering her. Reason number one she never talked about serious things. Serious things made people serious and not happy. Chewing on a delicious snow pea she rolled a grape of the table and giggled as Lucky thought it was yummy food. The dog chased the round fruit about the outside cafe floor barking a bit when she couldn't bite it.
Now it was her turn to choke on her food. Coughing she downed her tea her cheeks burning she sat down her empty glass forcefully.
"Locke? I, um, study with him." Kiri could not remove the blush on her face. Locke was younger than her but he just acted so much older because of his intelligence. The fact that he was so incrediably smart attracted her to him because she was so incrediably not smart. Well, in most things. But he was younger than her and probably did not see her as girl friend material at all. Probably big sister type or something. Or annoying perky girl who kept bothering him to tutor her. Though...he had said he likd her drawings.
"Shut up." Kiri actually snapped glaring down at her salad. She wasn't going to think of Locke than more than a friend. If she did it would just make things complicated.

Well, it looked like Kiri was at least somewhat interested in Locke. Study sessions often led to something more, a fact that Kennedy knew first hand. After all, his relationship with Angela had started through practices, and look where they'd wound up.
For now though, he was willing to take the studying as just that, knowing how awkward male-female study sessions could be for the participants. Besides, it could very well start platonic. However, Kennedy was surprised when Kiri added "shut up" and for a few moments he wondered if she was talking to someone besides him.
Which made him look to Lucky first. But she was simply staring up at him, eyes begging for treats. Not a peep out of her. So next Kennedy cast a quick gaze over the table, hoping that an insect hadn't crawled up without his noticing it.
Nothing there either. Which meant she was either addressing herself or Kennedy. Figuring that it would be best to simply keep going, Kennedy popped another bite in his mouth, offering some french fries to Lucky.
Once he'd swallowed, he talked again, "You know, I don't think you mentioned how you were doing in school. Everything going alright then? I'd guess so, since you're getting help and all."
Another quick bite. "These things really are good, you sure you don't want to try one? I doubt they're going to talk with you now, being dead and all."
He held a meat puff out, wiggling it enticingly.

He was dropping the subject. Good. Sighing she dropped her hand with a few pieces of mandrian for the squirrel-monkey. The tiny creature's hopped onto her arm and she brought him up to sit on her lap as he fed from the fruit in her hand. Its fur was bright orange with grey intermingled within a large grey patches were on its chest, paws, and over both eyes.
"I'm doing fairly alright. Passing all of my classes." Kiri smiled more interested in feeding the cute thing in her lap then personally eating. "Yep, getting help." Her mind wandered to the cute, cat earred boy and she focused even harder on the monkey. Sixteen year olds did not date thirteen year olds.
"No, I'm alright. I actually don't like the taste of dark meat." Then a young man around Kennedy's age stood and whistled. The squirrel-monkey chippered kissed Kiri on the cheek making a loud smacking noise which only made her giggle. It then hopped down and skittered over to his master's arm. The boy smiled at her titled his hat to her then left. Sad that her little friend was gone she started eating again.
