She could feel his inner turmoil but knew not what he was thinking, the reasoning behind it. She chose to ignore it and wallow in her own suffering - it was the safest option. She was broken and she couldn't worry about other broken people - she was too preoccupied with how she was going to be fixed. Again she wanted to tell him everything but too fast did the reasons against it return to her.
Here the two of them stood, clutching the other, unable to say anything but the meaningless. Kara could feel nothing and Kara could feel everything, but not a word was spoken to indicate her true pain. She was a self-absorbed animal with preservation instincts so strong that she'd do anything to hurt herself.
Crying was a useless act, Kara knew this, and eventually her blubbering came to a quiet close. Her eyes shut and she took in deep breaths, the scent of him calming and aggravating at the same time. He was all she could touch and see and smell. All she could feel. She wasn't even sure of her own emotions, for all she felt was his suffering. Her hands dropped from his back and she slumped back toward the island until her fingers found purchase with the edge of it, and carefully she extracted herself from his embrace.
"You shouldn't feel like that. Not for me," she told him, voice hoarse. She couldn't look at him; she was ashamed for her behaviour and the emotions she'd pulled from him. Eiji should never feel the way he did right now - it was unnatural and wrong. She missed his cocky smirk and knowing eyes. This pain was becoming unbearable and all she wanted to do was make him numb to it all, though not at the price of losing him.
