Cian walked along the path that led around the campus. He was alone, as usual. It was the early morning hours. The moon was bright even though it was barely a sliver of borrowed light in the sky. The stars shone with a brilliance of magik in the air. The breeze was cool and crisp, but he didn't feel it. His skin was cold, his heat unbeating. He was a creature o the night, a vampire. He lived at Preumbra University, studying and helping with younger vampires when ever he was needed. But it was a lonely existence. especially at night when he had no one to talk to, no one to turn to to share the nightmares of his daily sleep.
Cian walked slowly along the path, his gaze peering into the darkness of the night. his thoughts were on his beloved sister Rosalin, even though it pained his greatly. He glanced about and spotted a rose bush not too far away. He instantly felt rage well up inside of him, unimaginable pain coursing through his undead body. His sister had loved roses, had smelled like them even as she lay on her death bed. It had been eleven years since her death but he still felt her lose as keenly as ever.

It may be the early hours of the morning, but that only meant New York was just debating whether or not to go to sleep. Dorian had just finished his shift at Club Silver and was planning on waking up Jon. He had a hankering for the boy's lasagna, and Jon had mentioned he made some at the diner the other night, so there might be leftovers. Of course it occurred to Dorian that Jon, like the rest of the Academy, would be asleep at four in the morning, but Dorian was wide awake and couldn't care less. His best friends were used to this sort of behaviour, and it didn't bother them as much as it should.
So Dorian was walking through the Penumbra grounds toward the boy's dormitories when a young man about his age caught his eye. The guy was standing as still as a statue, and glowering at some roses as though they had personally wronged him.
"Hey guy?" Dorian greeted, standing a good ten feet back, wary he was one of those crazies that attacked innocent people at random, "You good?"

Cian turned his suddenly blood red eyes on the new comer. He growled low in his throat, baring his fangs to the boy. Cian wasn't himself at the moment, not with teh roses so close to him, rage boiling over inside him, and a sudden hunger that he couldn't seem to control. He'd gone over three years without feeding on human blood. Would this end his strict diet? Cian took a menacing step towards teh boy, his muscles taut and ready for the attack. The smell of roses assailing his senses and blurring his vision.

Yep. Kenneth was right. The Academy was going to the dogs. He examined Cian with a cool gaze, taking in his eyes and his fangs. A vampire wasn't the weirdest thing he'd ever encountered. Hell, he'd been sleeping with a werewolf for a good two months or so. Of course, she'd been a sexy woman and not a terrifying beast when they were in bed, but still. The point was that encountering a vampire on school grounds wasn't as strange a predicament as it might've been.
What was strange was that he seemed wild. What was an untamed vampire doing here? Did someone turn him as a joke? That was cruel. To not explain the rules to him, that attacking people on this ground was a sure-fire way to get dusted.
Dorian held up a hand to the snarling fiend, "You don't want to do that." Hey, maybe if he was lucky, his calm reception of the possible attack might startle Cian enough to sober him up. Dorian had no idea what set the guy off, and just assumed it was his presence. He wouldn't die if the vampire decided to snack on him. Maybe a bit of his dignity though, so he wasn't fond of the idea of just letting whatever happened happen. He was quick, but he was sure vampires were fast too. This guy didn't look too smart; he was all feral, all bloodlust. He could probably outwit him with some strategic evasive moves...

Cian advanced towards the younger boy. Cian knew teh rules but her couldn't think right now. Not with teh smell of roses in his head. he growled again and lunged for the boy, fangs bared his red eyes wide and egar for the kill.

Dorian waited until the last possible second to side-step the frontal assault. He lifted his palm, a move that sometimes worked on Kenneth when the boy used his bear-attack move on him. If it connected, the heel of his palm would slam upwards under Cian's chin, effectively shutting his mouth and maybe even forcing him to chomp down on his own tongue. Which would probably hurt if the fangs pierced him.
He took one more step around so he was behind the vampire, and used his other hand to push down on his shoulder. If Cian kept charging forward, the rest of his body might keep obeying him, which would force him to land on the ground butt-first. If it didn't work the way it was intended, it might just get him to buckle his knees. Dorian could probably snap the guy's neck from his current position, but he wasn't sadistic enough to try it. He'd broken his friend's collar bone once by accident, and the sickening crunch of the bone beneath his foot made Dorian opposed to hearing the sound again. Even if a vampire recovered from such an attack, the boy didn't want to subject himself to that sort of torture. So for selfish reasons he kept his hands away from Cian's neck.

Cian's tongue throbbed as he fell to his knees. He hadn't expected the kid to react so fast. But now he was far enough away from the roses that his vision began to clear. His red eyes began to change back to thier normal grey blue color as he stayed on his knees. Bewilderment and confusion etched on his face.

Dorian didn't recognize that the boy's head had cleared of whatever madness seized him. That was the disadvantage of standing behind your opponent. He stepped back and delivered a sharp kick to the centre of the vampire's back to push him forward. He had every intention of making Cian taste the cement with the force behind his foot.
He took another cautionary step back, widening his stance should Cian think it was a good idea to attack him again. Usually when a large predator learned its prey wasn't as easy to take down as it initially thought, it gave up. If this happened, Dorian would gladly escape to the authorities on campus and let them know what was going on. Cian wouldn't make it off school grounds without getting flagged by an alerted security guard.
"Had enough?" The adrenaline had him sneering with satisfaction. He felt cocky at his small victory, and was eager to prove himself again. He almost wanted the vampire to run at him again.

Cian felt the sting of the blow to his back, as he fell forward he threw his hands out to catch himself barely an inch form the ground. In the blink of an eye he was on his feet and facing the boy. Hey! That's not very nice, what the hell did i ever do to you? he demanded, his stance sure and ready in case the boy got cocky and rushed him. the last thing cian remembered was walking along minding his own business and thinking of Rosalin, then suddenly being on his knees getting kicked fomr behind!

So it could talk. Refreshing, from all the gutteral snarling.
"What the hell did you do to me?" Dorian repeated, his tone indicating he thought Cian was a complete idiot. "You fucking attacked me!" But the vamp appeared to be civilized, almost as fast as it'd turned animal. Was it PMSing? What was with the mood swings?
"I have a great idea. Why don't you stay over there. Yeah, you stay completely still," Dorian advised, and pulled a lighter out of his bartending jacket pocket, "And... I'll set you on fire?" He wouldn't actually, but the fearless raise of his eyebrow might suggest otherwise. Dorian didn't take kindly to people who played dumb. And Cian was being a right idiot, in his opinion.

Woh woh woh. Just hang on there. I attacked you? I was just wlaking along and the next thing i know i was on my knees with you kicking my back in! Now put that lighter away! he stood up straight as a thought occurred to him. Had he blacked out? had he really tried to hurt this kid? and if he had that only meant one thing. Hang on... is there a rose bush nearby by any chance? he asked with a heavy sigh.

"Oh don't act innocent. Own up, you pussy," Dorian crossed his arms, temporarily hiding the lighter. He watched with narrowed eyes as Cian pieced the puzzle together. When he seemed to realize his mistake, Dorian practically groaned. He didn't like being left out of solutions.
"A... rose bush?" Dorian warily let his eyes drift away from the vampire. He had excellent vision thanks to his cellular regeneration fighting any visual deterioration, and spotted the roses that Cian had been standing next to just moments ago. Head snapped back around to check that the vampire hadn't moved, and he tilted his head in the direction of the plant. "Yeah. You have allergies or something?"
Lame excuse, if it could be called that. Dorian looked unimpressed.

Cian cursed under his breath. Something like that. Look, kid. I'm sorry. I hope i didn't hurt you. I just wasn't myself, I assure. And it won't happen again. he stepped forward with one hand out. truce? he said with a crooked grin.

"You didn't even lay a hand on me," Dorian said, mood brightening ever so slightly. He was rubbing it in, just a little, and felt he had every right to. The guy might be apologizing, but Dorian still thought he was an out-of-control vampire.
"Ah... I'll truce from over here, thanks," He didn't back away, but he definitely didn't take Cian's outstretched hand. There were so many things you could do when you took someone's hand out of commission. Dorian wasn't going to risk it. A hundred or so sparring matches with Kenneth, who would fight dirty if he got frustrated enough, taught Dorian not to trust any sort of peace-making move.
"Are you like... a student here?" Dorian asked, still wary. If that was the case, Cian could probably put in a request to remove the rose bushes. That way his 'allergies' wouldn't act up and get him into more trouble.
Too bad Dorian was too much of an asshole to make the suggestion.

Alright have it your way. he dropped his hand to his side.
I live at the University. I help with the younger vampires when an extra hand is needed to control them. The rest of the time I study varies topics. he shrugged. He had eternity to live unless something went horribly wrong. So why focus on one particular field of study?
