It took Kellan a moment or two to figure out why the woman was looking at her and Kennedy like they were the cutest things to ever walk into the store, but when she realized that the woman thought they were ring shopping for Kellan, the blonde had to give everything she had to not laugh right in the lady’s face.
“We’re fine for now, thanks,” she let the woman know, chomping down on her bottom lip to keep the giggles in. She waited until the woman had disappeared to some room in the back of the store before she turned to Kennedy and finally let out a laugh that was filled with so much amusement. She realized soon after that that probably wasn’t the most appropriate things to do…
“Sorry, I’m not laughing because the thought of marrying you is that humorous,” she apologized to Kennedy. Well, maybe she was just a little bit. “I’m laughing at the thought of getting married at all. I don’t think I’m wife material.” She gave Kennedy an ‘okay I’ll behave now’ grin before she began peering into the diamond case again.
There were so many rings to choose from. Round cut, square cut, princess cut, heart cut. Yellow gold, white gold, platinum. Third-karat, half-karat, full karat. It was no wonder Kennedy had needed someone to help him out.
“Hmm, what about something like that?” she asked, pointing out a classic square cut diamond. It was a nice size and definitely in Kennedy’s price range.

It took Kennedy a while to even realize Kellan was chuckling. And then he was slightly confused, looking from the woman to Kellan. When she explained it, he laughed a few times himself, though they came out high pitched and slightly forced.
"thanks for that," he murmured. He really did need to hear that marrying Kennedy was not a humorous thought. It should be a serious thought, in fact. Something people thought about and went "hmm." Like "hmm, I think someone should marry Kennedy because he's an upstanding young man."
"Well, good thing you're dating Kenneth then," offered Kennedy. As much as Kennedy liked Kenneth, he had to admit that he certainly didn't see Lorne as the commitment sort. At best Kenneth would lower to one knee as an elaborate prank.
"That looks good," agreed Kennedy. Can we just get that one and go?. "Really good."
He shifted, looking at the various rings. There was just so many...
"We should look around though, right?"

Kellan frowned when Kennedy told her that he liked the ring she suggested, not because he agreed with her, but because he seemed like he was ready to pick the first one he saw and bolt out of the jewelry store. Kellan wondered if he even really looked at the thing. She could have suggested a glow-in-the-dark mood ring and Kennedy probably would have bought it without hesitation if it meant getting out of the store and all the intimidating silver and gold.
“This is a big deal, Kennedy,” she informed him. “Angela is going to wear this ring every day. You have to put a little effort into it. At least look at a couple more.”
She gave him what she thought was an encouraging poke in the shoulder before she turned back to the cases. Some of the rings were huge and reminded Kellan of something that would be found in a treasure chest in some adventure movie. She could picture Mikey Walsh from the Goonies (her favorite movie in the history of the world, of course) pulling some of the stones from One Eyed Willie’s pirate ship.
She snapped back to reality when her eyes fell on another ring. The round-cut diamond seemed perfect for Angela. Kellan could picture it sitting perfectly on her best friend’s slender hand, Angela showing it off to everyone. It was classic, cute, and gorgeous. Just like Angela.
“I know I just told you to look at some more, but forget that,” she told Kennedy. “That’s the one. Right there. It’s perfect.” She tapped on the glass to show Kennedy which one she was talking about.

"I know I have to put effort into it!" protested Kennedy, nearly whining. He cleared his throat and suddenly took a great interest in the rings around him. Clearly they were quite... shiny and ringlike. Oh, and beautiful.
Kennedy kept trying to picture Angela, trying to deduce what her reaction would be to each piece. Silver or gold? Clearly diamonds were the way to go, though there were several other gems of beauty. But he could always get her something later.
Kellan fortunately drew Kennedy's attention away from a mistake waiting to happen, to the actual beautiful ring.
"So we've given up on the looking around?" he teased as moved over. The teasing smile fled his face as he actually saw the ring, and he nodded. It was easy picturing Angela wearing something like that. Simple, yet elegant. Besides, there was just something about it.
Quite possibly his desire to get the hell out of there resurfacing.
"That is ridiculously beautiful," he agreed, mouth still open. "You sure I can afford it?"
he looked around for a pricetag, nervous yet again.

--sooo short. sorry.
For a few seconds, Kellan wondered if Kennedy really thought the ring was ridiculously beautiful, just like he said, but she didn’t entertain the question for too long because, quite honestly, it didn’t matter. That was the ring for Angela. She was sure of it. Kennedy obviously put enough trust in her to help him out and pick the right ring, and Kellan knew that this was the one.
Kellan peered closely into the case to get a look at the tiny price tag next to the ring. Upon reading it, she frowned. That wasn’t the number she was hoping to see.
“It’s thirteen hundred,” she let Kennedy know. “And I know that’s more than you planned on spending, but you have to get this one, Kennedy. It’s perfect, seriously.”
Someone listening to the two of them would probably make the same assumption that the woman earlier had – that they were shopping for a ring for Kellan, not her best friend.

"Right, perfect," agreed Kennedy. He rubbed his face, staring at the ring for a while longer. Why did the perfect things always have to be so difficult to get? Well, Kennedy could buy it on credit, he supposed. Pay it off in bits. If push came to shove, he could even borrow money from... well, Rae would be the best choice. The rockstar rolled in it, after all.
"So this is definitely the one?" he asked again. It almost sounded as if he asked himself as much Kellan. He couldn't take his eyes away from the diamond. "You sure we don't need to look around a bit more? See if we can find something else?"
Now he looked at Kellan. His eyes conveyed much. Yes, he wanted to be done ring shopping. It drained him, for some reason. It was true: he did think this was the perfect ring; it wasn't just words. And clearly he was very, very nervous about buying a ring at one of the first stores they'd went to.
"And thanks again for helping..."

“Definitely,” Kellan felt confident enough to reassure him. “I don’t know a lot about diamond rings or being engaged or anything like that, but I do know my best friend. I know that this will be great for her and she’ll love it the moment she sees it.”
Kellan hoped to God that she was right. She would feel awful if, later on when Kennedy actually popped the question, Angela confessed to her that she really hated the ring. But the blonde doubted that would happen. Like she had told Kennedy, she knew Angela, and this was the one.
“And don’t thank me, Kennedy,” she added. “I’m flattered that you even asked. Really. I know I gave you a hard time earlier, but I think it was just because I can’t picture myself in this situation, so it’s hard for me to picture you in it. But this isn’t about me. Just remember that if you break her heart… well, I’ll break you neck.”
She gave him the most threatening stares that would make it clear that she would hold true to that promise, but it only lasted a few seconds before she smiled once again.
“So what’s my incentive for keeping my mouth shut and not saying anything to Angela?” Kellan asked, looking around for the woman who had been helping them earlier.

It was definitely the best for Angela. Kennedy had to agree to that. And not just because Kellan had picked it out, for Kennedy trusted Kellan implicitly. No, she'd done well, and he could see that easily enough.
"It's okay, I get the rough talk from just about everyone." Kennedy shrugged. "People are considered, what with me being so young and all that. Really, I'm glad you all care so much."
It also hardened Kennedy's resolve. Which he would need, if he was actually going to face down Travis Sivart and Mackenzie Cavan. Just thinking about those conversations made Kennedy quake a bit.
"Where is that lady? She was all over us when we didn't want it," he murmured, craning his neck to look throughout the store. Said lady noticed his strange movements, and headed for the two of them, a smile plastered across her face.
She and Kennedy exchanged pleasantries, and Kennedy pointed out the ring in question. Somehow the young man actually knew Angela's size, and gave it to the woman. When she ducked back to get things ready, Kennedy turned to Kellan.
"Well, I'm nearly broke, what with the ring and all. But I could probably spring for a hamburger?" he grinned. "You know, dollar menu and all that."
